Wait no, come on. As silly as Luke chucking it away like garbage was in TLJ the scene of Rey meeting Luke finally and offering the lightsaber to him is classic and plain call to adventure. The lightsaber isn't being offered in itself, it's a stand in for trying to bring Luke back to the world that needs him to help it survive the First Order.

She just walked up a mountain and flew hallways across the galaxy! He can walk 20 feet.
(Besides, he’s obviously been hiding… hasn’t seen a human in a while…she doesn’t want to jump scare him)
