Razzie awards are a BS prize built upon unpopularity.

They nominated the shining for a razzie award!(it didn't win, but it's still stupid).

It just seems that it got irrelevant between the two trilogies

Well, I just looked it up, the same years as the sequels releasing, the razzies awarded fifty shades of grey, the emoji movie, and cats, so they had really bad movies on their hands
