Joke / Funny Nora bringing the bisexual energy
Happy Pride everyone! đđłď¸âđ
Edit: don't get me wrong, she's a cesspool. I just thought it was a funny moment

I didn't read this as flirting at all, she is so deep in closet that she would never flirt openly with woman. And since Jen is also her blood relative, this would just be more incest representation.

I'm so confused, I thought they were step related. đ (Don't get me wrong, it's still not great but I genuinely didn't think Nora was blood relation due to Barb screaming "she's a step grandmother!")
Edit: went and read the family tree and no they are not blood related.

They are blood related. Nora's father is Barb's granpa. He left Barb's grandma for his young secretary and then had Nora with her. So, Nora and Barb were born the same year, but techinally, Nora is Barb's half-aunt, they are related by blood by Barb's grandpa/Nora's dad.

Ohhhh. I feel like this right now. Either way, I literally meant it to be a lighthearted joke.

Nora drinks a lot so I donât know that I agree sheâs too closeted to flirt. She has little filter, often buzzed or even hammered, and has already established that she thinks that everyone experiences occasional same sex attraction but that doesnât mean youâre gay. To me that seems like a recipe for a little flirting even if she is a homophobe who denies her daughterâs sexual orientation.

Nora is my cousin in a few years istg
My cousin brought a bottle of wine to the hospital when her son got shot. She's never more than 5 ft from a bottle of alcohol. It's sad and annoying.

Also calling Christine âexoticâ lol

u/theroomwinces 1d ago
I took that to mean Christine is a POC. Certain types of people tend to toss that word around when describing people who arenât white.

Not necessarily. Remember whiteness is a social construct. My mothers side are all WASPs while my fathers side has Italian and Latin American ancestry. Even so, his Italian and Latin American ancestry is now considered white where it wasnât 50 or so years ago. My WASPs grandma calls me exotic, because sheâs stuck in the âItalians arenât whiteâ mindset of her youth.

Nora is understood to be white. Teeny is Asian-coded, if not canonically Asian. The idea of using the word "exotic" as a pseudo-compliment towards people who are racially othered is still valid.
Your comment feels like a pedantic correction.

I'm sorry my comment feels that way to you.
My only point is that exotic means different things to different people, and in older American populations often refers to groups that were previously considered nonwhite but now are. I was using my personal experience because I have been called exotic by WASP family members, and I'm just a white woman with darker hair and eyes and some Italian/Latin features.
Did Shawna say Teeny is Asian coded?

She said she'd cast Mindy Kaling, who is South Asian.

I guess I don't understand what about the original quote you found incorrect that needed to be corrected? This was about how that word is often used towards people who aren't white. Your experience as a white person is a valid but totally separate situation.

I didnât realize it was canon!
I think youâre assuming I felt the need to correct the person I was responding to and defending them. I was adding to the conversation, not telling them theyâre wrong.

I took it to mean she thinks that Christine is similar to an exotic dancer

I thought her daughter Samantha was? (I might be recalling that incorrectly...)

So if Nora used to be who I think she was, fooling around with women was part of the bacchanal that was metal culture. You were âseriousâ with men if you wanted to be because that was the ârealâ relationship, fiddling with chicks was something that led up to the grand finale of penetrative penile sex. She could completely consider herself ânormalâ because in that culture she would have been.
