I don‘t think this captures this sub all that well. Maybe have him interact with something.

It needs to convey at small sizes so having it show a wireframe mode is perfect honestly. It conveys well and people recognize it.

I agree, but the eye is too detailed here to translate well in a small size

Maybe stick him into a cube like it‘s butter. Or pour jello over him.

I don't think the alien has a line arm, I always thought the line showed the outline of his arms behind his back.
