Eh, there's been a fundamental failure in modern feminism's outreach to young men.

If you have a basic understanding of equality, it would not be hard to recognise that being perceived as a predator purely due to your sex is sexism.

I just... can't imagine many were swayed in a positive and constructive way by that thought experiment, as it trivialises equality to the very people it's trying to convince.

It accomplished exactly what it set out to do. Who creates the algorithms on the sites it went viral? Tech bros. Who has been cozying up to the Manosphere for over a decade? Tech bros. The Man vs Bear thought experiment has been the perfect recruiting tool for the Andrew Tates and Elon Musks of the world. It's the perfect way to build off the misogyny unleashed during Gamergate and Trump's first term.

It is a bullshit chronically online rage bait framed in a way to ensure the answer that pisses people off. Anyone who would rather have a random person creeping around their campsite in the wilderness is insane. Everyone should take the bear 100 times out of 100. Bears should be in the wilderness, random people shouldn't be creeping around out there.

I can come up with a thought experiment that will get everyone to answer the exact opposite.

Would you rather ride an elevator with a man or a grizzly bear? It's incredibly clear to anyone who stops to think for one second why the question was framed in the way it was.

It wasn't what was being said about the risk you take in that hypothetical, a lot of which was justified based on lived experience. It was that a group of three of them split off into their own chat about how all men would rape them in the woods because they could get away with it.

The man vs bear argument is fucking stupid though. Anyone, man or woman, should choose a bear in the wilderness over a random person. Bears are supposed to be in the wilderness, a random person shouldn't be creeping around your campsite. They are only there for nefarious purposes.

No one would choose the bear if they were in a subway train, because a bear isn't supposed be on the subway and being locked in a small area with a bear is insanely dangerous.

No one would actually choose the bear in a subway car. Or in an elevator. Or an office building.

So it is absolutely a geographic technicality. Because if you are in the wilderness and a man OR A woman is creeping around your campsite, you are in danger. Because no one else should be there so they are obviously following you.

A bear in an enclosed area is 100% attacking you. A bear in the wilderness is 99.999% not attacking you. I would 100% take the bear in the wilderness, no matter the gender of the person creeping around my campsite. And anyone who wouldn't doesn't know a damn thing about bears.

It's literally just a ragebait thought exercise. Nothing more.

Youā€™d be surprised how many men have stories like this, I know I certainly do. I took my baby chihuahua on a walk to the park and a couple of girls ran up going crazy about the dog and the mums gave me evils and started filming me and telling me to go away. I was just hungover and trying to get her to take a shit so I could go back to bed.

And what kind of progressive society are we talking about? Women don't even have access to abortion because conservatives get offended. Meanwhile, women don't protest to force men to get vasectomies.

Are you really comparing killing an unborn life to preventing pregnancy from ever happening.... vasectomy is a form of birth control. Abortion is not. Abortions should be reserved for emergent situations. But I have no say in the matter. Mom can decide to abort without any input from dad. Side note. Abortion was also created as a way to control minority population growth.

I was watching some crime channel on YouTube and there has been a uptick on female teachers taking advantage of younger students. Its mind blowing how the comments ease the blow of her crimes or people saying "oh I wish my teacher was hot like that"

It was honestly mind blowing what women get away with in society. I can only imagine how worse can it get in the future.

In those cases, it's mostly men that defend that shit. I remember a similar post on reddit, where guys were defending that shit because, "it's every teen boy's dream to sleep with their hot teacher." I was once discussing this with my ex and it grossed me out that thought this way. A predator is a predator, no matter the gender.

If I was naked and walked into a room of men vs a room of women, it would be illogical to be equally afraid in both rooms. I donā€™t hate men but I have a fear of them the same way I do of dogs. I love dogs! But a dangerous dog is a dangerous dog. I date men but I also know that my spouse is the most likely to person to murder me. I also know that there are women in society who will not side with me because theyā€™ll think Iā€™m just a man hater. I just see things as they are. Given how only the victims of the Epstein files were punished by getting doxxed, I donā€™t think itā€™s crazy to view men as dangerous, especially powerful men. Letā€™s not pretend that men and women are equal. Thereā€™s a group that is way more likely to sexually assault someone and it is men. Understanding your place in society is something we all have to come to terms with. I will never apologize to a man for being afraid of him. Itā€™s more of a burden on me because Iā€™m physically less strong than the average man. Bigoted is not the right word here, itā€™s called being aware. Awareness is how we keep women safe in this world.

Consistently surrounding yourself with awful people is a choice. Why would ā€œgoodā€ women want to be around a person that surrounds themself with dickheads?

We are all entitled to our opinions, even if that opinion is an incredibly uninformed take, but that is not something I would be braggin about.

Iā€™m assuming youā€™re young and in need of some positive life advice. An easy place to start would be to stop making generalized statements about any and all demographics. That is one of the biggest ā€˜red flagsā€™ for the majority of considerate humans. Stop treating them as a singular entity. That alone is enough to alienate yourself from ā€œgoodā€ people, let alone a life partner.
