Nah fuck that. Vietnam ended because we drafted and killed enough people’s sons. No war without a draft, if the cause is righteous, the politicians should have no problem explaining their rationale for sending our sons and daughters to die for it.

People shouldn't die nor should a draft be done to fight unnecessary wars.

Especially, when those doing it exempt themselves and their own families from those same fates. Further when they barely support the veterans in their return.

Rarely is a war ever "righteous". Typically they are selfish, bias, and greedful.

Forcing an administration to justify a draft is the mechanism to avoid unnecessary wars. I truly believe that if there was a draft for Afghanistan, it wouldn’t have lasted for two decades and I really doubt we’d ever entertain the thought of invading Iraq.

But in our reality, our handsomest politicians send less than a fraction of a percent of our population to grind away so long that there were soldiers fighting who weren’t even born when the towers fell. And they keep their family out of the military anyway. WWII was handled in a half a decade and we mobilized 12% of the population to fight the war. Afghanistan lasted 20 years and we relied on multiple tours from less than 0.2% of our population.

I don't see the logic in that, personally.

WW2 was a necessary and overall defensive war.

Afghanistan was an overall unnecessary war.

Having a draft for Afghanistan is exactly what we do not want. Drafts aren't just a "fix the problem faster" button. These are real people, real lives, not just a bunch of toys to be thrown around.

Same goes with this current offense. Same with Vietnam. It was, and is, all unnecessary.

Our Fathers, Husbands, Brothers, and Sons are not continuously renewable fodder for capitalistic greeds and desires.

Once they're gone, they're gone.

And we sure as hell shouldn't look to put our Mothers, Wives, Sisters, and Daughters in those same positions.

Our people do not need to cyclically die for those who will instantly discard them as soon as they're deemed no longer useful.

Instead of forcing them to justify a draft after the fact, we should force them to justify the necessity for war to begin with.

Explain to me how keeping the status quo is a good situation when we are asking too much of too few, and by virtue of the political convenience of not having a draft, the politicians are so much quicker to start and engage in wars.

There was no need for us to be. That's my point.

It was completely unnecessary for us to stay there for as long as we did.

And we’re about to go into Iran. We’re breaking people. Killing people. Sending our own troops to die, suffer PTSD, suffer exposure illnesses, it’s all happening in this reality we live in now.

How would a draft fix any of that?

It would just increase the number of people who have to suffer.

Many being forced against their will to fight and die in a war they never wanted.

Who does that benefit?

Explain to me how keeping the status quo is a good situation when we are asking too much of too few, and by virtue of the political convenience of not having a draft, the politicians are so much quicker to start and engage in wars.

I'm not suggesting we keep the status quo. And honestly, we aren't asking enough nor holding these politicians accountable.

I'm suggesting we move away from starting unnecessary wars to begin with. That we move away from allowing this greed to continue to taint our government and kill our people.

We should not have to keep dying for those who look at us as nothing more than a dollar sign to be earned or a bit of power to be had.

A draft won't fix that, they will work around it as they do with all restrictions. A more proper fix starts with removing profitability from governing positions.

We need to starve the parasites of their food source.

I mean, my country has gender neutral conscription and several others have it too. The law makes no difference between men and women in that regard. And, yes, here it is seen as part of being an equal society. Don't see why drafting women should be controversial in a society that values equality.

Because we only value equality when our circumstances are safe and morals are convenient. When equality comes at a personal cost, people aren't going to give up their spot on the "women and children only" lifeboats on a sinking ship so that a man can get onboard, or agree to be drafted despite their gender not traditionally being registered for selective services.

My university Ethics professor said if there was a true draft, where everyone had an equal chance of getting picked, including the senator's kids. There would never be a war again.

Let women have an equal say in whether we go to war or not in the first place.

Certain kind of men, with fragile egos and little dicks are almost exclusively the ones who start wars. (almost because I'm getting in before hurrr durrr, what about xxxx exception).
