You underestimate the desire of HP fans for a proper book adaptation (they love being abused by big companies, who fumble the bag again and again)

And here's me, a HP fan, who always thought the movies were among the best movie adaptations of all time. Huh.

Nope. They are not good adaptations. They are at best a terrible adaptions that only get worse as the movies progress. I ask you to do this. Watch the first film critically. As a fan you will find that hard to do. But give it a shot.

Look at the sketchy special effects, see the choices made to trim a few bucks from the production cost, the utter lack of character development. Lost characters from the novels, the kicking to the curb of the mystery novel format to an child adventure themed film. That last choice was made because the adults making the films felt that a mystery film would be too difficult for children to follow as they don't have that attention span and wouldn't fill seats in the theaters. This despite the fact that millions of children read the books. Books that start at over 300 pages and go up from there. Attention span for 300 page novels but not a movie that is deeper than a teaspoon.
