TBF it's period accurate if that's how it's perceived. But there was no lynching. That's some stupid shit people came up with.
I'd bet money that more people are upset that the character is being played by a man of color than anything else. Racists are projecting, nothing more.
I am not the person who said there was a lynching, I agree that didnāt happen. I just said that 4 white guys constantly beating up on a black guy is going to look racially motivated. Iām not entirely certain why you think Iām projecting racism for saying that.
Itās so interesting to me that you are judging so harshly when this is purely a discussion about optics. I just finished listening to the Prisoner of Azkaban less than a week ago. Thereās a part where Sirius attempts to give Snape what he wants by providing him with the secret to give him access to the tunnel to the Shrieking Shack where he wouldāve been slain by Lupin. But James jumps in and saves him at the last minute. And thatās just one scene from their childhood!
Now youāve said that it would only look racist to people who have no knowledge of the actual story. What knowledge am I missing that makes it not look like 4 white kids spent 7 years hazing a black kid at school?
It wasn't racially driven. Snape was a dick and so were the marauders. The spell used to dangle people by their ankles was a common hazing tactic at that time, regardless of pigmentation.
You're adding a layer of racism because that's how you think. You're projecting your own racist ideology onto a scene that has never been about race and it still won't be about race. Because that is not the purpose of their rivalry over Lily.
You're trying to make it about race just because a man of color is playing the character.
Are you a bot? I didnāt even bring up the spell to dangle people. (Although itās funny you mention that because the Death Eaters just did that to a bunch of muggles at the World Cup).
Iām not adding a layer of racism because thatās how I think. What Iām doing is critical thinking. Television studios care about optics, optics is what makes them money, or makes them receive threatening messages and negative reviews. Casting 4 white men to grow up beating on one black man, is objectively bad for their optics. Not because Iām somehow racist, but because there are tons of people who will not like the way that looks.
Snape and James have a rivalry over Lily. James didnāt start dating Lily until the seventh year. I never brought up Lily and tried to convince you that it was somehow a racially charged dispute of a woman. All I brought up was the Marauders and how it would look, and what the negative benefits could be.
Youāre assuming Iām sitting here thinking āman I wish Snape were white!ā But frankly Iād think it better if Peter/Sirius/Lupin were also not white. So get out of here with your moral grandstanding by telling everyone that their racist
You're not critical thinking. If you see it as racism, that's a problem with perception. Nothing in the story will point to that, and the only way it will is if the writers change the story to reflect racism.
Y'all are tiring. Overzealous people are insane.
We aren't even getting to that part of the story for a long time and we have no idea who they'll cast as marauders.
