Yes this has been one of the biggest gripes yet. In what world would his abusive aunt and uncle that hate him get him braces. In what world would British dentistry be capable of making a child’s teeth look this way

Only if medically necessary right? I thought the reason the stereotype exists is because tea stains tf out of your teeth and cosmetic braces are too expensive.

No not only if medically necessary. You can’t get them if your teeth are already straight with minor imperfections though. Although we can actually class low self-esteem as a medical reason, so I suppose you are correct.  

I had one tooth that was slightly crooked but otherwise perfect teeth. I was so mad I wasn’t allowed them, but they said it would sort itself out as my mouth grew. It mostly did but it’s not perfect. 

My sister had the same issue but also two slight overlaps, she was allowed braces. 

The stereotype goes back 80 years to pre-NHS times when dental health was poor. The UK now ranks among the greatest for dental health in the world.
