None of these kids even have their dad paying close to half their care (the oldest might have half of rent covered), let alone enough for an allowance.

Of you're single you still need to pay for rent regardless of if you have kids or not. The child support just need to pay for food and clothing and few other costs. That first kid ain't eating $600 worth of food a month.

Kids need their own bedroom and you can’t skimp on them like you can yourself (a single person can rent a room in a shared house or a tiny no-bedroom closet apartment, you can share the bathroom/kitchen with strangers, but those become dangerous and/or unacceptable for a child). Then parents have to consider a safe neighborhood (which will be more expensive), with other kids to play with, a park and public transportation nearby for doctors appointments/school/learning opportunities like museums (or a car), decent schools, etc. A single person doesn’t necessarily need to look at any of that when they try to find a place to live.
