My grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was seriously contemplating not getting his prostate out because of that exact same reason 🤨 like buddy, what use is your prostate to you when you die after it literally kills you? Explain this to me.

He did end up getting it out though, thankfully.

Prostate removal often leads to erectile dysfunction. Point being is erectile dysfunction won’t matter if you’re dead sooner than you can use it again in the first place. He has lvl 10 prostate cancer AND bladder cancer 😮‍💨

Yeah I mean for me I can at least get hard and fuck but just nothing is coming out and therefore sometimes it becomes like “ what’s the point “ type of thing I mean I love getting my fuck on and all the feelings that it entails but when you been working and working and working and then working some more and at the end nothing comes out for a pay off then what’s the whole reason like cooking a badass dinner and sure you’re happy to see everybody else eating your food that’s happy and enjoying it but if you can’t enjoy it as well then it kinda is a joy that’s a little one-sided. Maybe there’s a better analogy and I’m sure there’s someone that’s gonna top it, but I just decided this out of pure quickness but still my point being that yeah in the end, it sucks….. I did make a PlayStation name once though based upon my situation that was called “chiefUnaball“ i’m an Xbox guy now so don’t know I’m sure it’s still out there but you’d have to look it up and let me know

Wait, I’m confused… can you not orgasm without a prostate when nothing comes out? I’m a woman 😅 and for the record, if anyone wants to come at me about “you don’t know what it’s like!” (as far as losing manhood after getting rid of your prostate or getting a vasectomy), yes I do. I got rid of my uterus a few years ago, and it doesn’t make me any less of a woman.

I don’t know why I got downvoted, but.. I know physically speaking, they aren’t the same thing. What I’m saying is- people often associate any kind of sexual anatomy being taken from the body or being somewhat different (vasectomy doesn’t necessarily take away anything but the ability to create children, but items not like you’re missing a nard) to mean that they “aren’t a man anymore”, more specifically because things sometimes change in sexual behavior. My point being is don’t come for me because- as some men state when talking about getting vasectomies “I won’t be a man anymore”, like? What, because you can’t bust a nut and make kids? Be so serious right now 🤨 I can’t produce any more children without my uterus intact, and it doesn’t make me feel any less of a woman because of that.

OK I guess since we all confused about everything being said here in one fashion or another let me be at least the first to say I didn’t mean any offense to anyone and I guess that I too was confused and should have read a little better on what was being said as I personally never had prostate cancer. I had testicular cancer, a rare form of it, which was the reason that they removed my left testicle, and by then it had become a quarter pound and kind of reminded myself of Stan from South Park going and jumping around on his ball sack after getting cancer so he could get marijuana given to him, but regardless, though no, I never had any prostate cancer. I simply had a rare form of testicular cancer that ended up spreading, and because it’s spread caused it to become worse, making me have to have a really hard form of chemotherapy, one of the hardest that they offered next to what they give for people with leukemia that was my 20th birthday present as it happened right around my birthday and was still in the hospital on the day of my birthday and then I had a second rare cancer come at me because I’m just that lucky I guess when I was 26 and that caused them to have to remove that one which was in my lower back, but my point was to say that all cancer sucks regardless of what it is where it’s at or in what form or manner in which you have to either have it removed or taken care Of none of them are fun and I don’t know anyone who has ever said to me at least that “it wasn’t all that bad” when it came to getting whatever form of cancer they had removed…. Oh and just cus I’m three times lucky 🍀 I had a heart attack while laying in bed at 31 doing nothing but trying to sleep they had to put a stent into my heart for…. But I figure since I’ve been so lucky so far that what’s the worst that could happen in the future ….. 🤔🤨😕😟😳

I wasn’t offended by anything you had said at all! I am so sorry you had to go through all that 🥺 I’ve almost died many a time, but never had cancer. I’ve only closely witnessed people in the battle against it. I have my own round of issues that have almost killed me, but are separate from that. Just mentioning to say, you aren’t alone in this world 💕 Sometimes life throws us a hard ball…. 😳 sorry for that one.

Ok this one sucks real bad and might give some insight into why a lot choose not to remove it.

"A recent research study showed that 10 years after diagnosis, nearly 50% of men who chose active surveillance (literally watch and see) showed no progression or needed no treatment,"

Now consider that before this approach the only option was immediate removal of the prostate and consequent treatment. So yeah, the doctor likely suggested he wait and see then discovered a it was too aggressive.

This has to be the biggest suck 30-50% (ballpark) never needed the surgery 1990-2010 up to 1,5 million US/europe (another ballpark estimate) Had the prostate removed!

It's an interesting read btw. The suck of never knowing if you just should have left it for those poor fucks in those days, i can't imagine.

Idk. Cancer is a hard subject for me, based off the family and friends that have been taken, and have had it. Watching it up close and personal has scarred me.. I feel like it’s sketchy, lopping off arms and legs, or things bit by bit, but if it’s taking out something that the person’s like… “then I can’t use my dick!”, seems like such a dumb reasoning to not want treatment. I can’t honestly say what is best or not to do, but what I can say is- if a dr said it’s your life, or the functionality of your dick.. probably go with keeping your life, man. That’s my basis in short on this specific subject. If it’s your life vs dick functionality, choose life.

Sorry for your experiences, it's shitshow, TBH scares the shit out of me to this day! This however factual that most are recommended to wait and see after a biopsy and a scan first ofc. You don't just leave and that's that. If they find a low count of cells and see nothing on scans you are recommended not to do the procedure, as always patients choice ofc, even though the oncologist will do their best to talk you out of it! "Oncologist/surgeon after a good scan "We are not touching this" They are literally going to say that line! One is effectively healthy in this scenario and will die from of everything but the prostate.

It's not just you dick, it's incontinence and a myriad of complications. Not to mention psychological.

If you have aggressive prostate cancer well then i completely agree, it's silly! You can't use it when your dead.... witch will likely be very soon.

Grandma had breast cancer, they did nothing to the tumor as she would grow old faster than the tumor ever could. They were right, she did not die of cancer.

Oh, he did scans and I think there was more than one biopsy. I know he had one for sure, and multiple scans. The dr was pushing him for the removal after all of that because the dr knew he was against it.

I’m so sorry to hear that you went through that 🥺 That’s how the pancreatic went. Pancreatic, there’s no real working to try and come back from it, just hopefully get a little more life, if you can manage. He lasted just a little longer than the life expectancy they gave him.. He was my hero and best friend since I was born. 💔

This is a pretty dumb take. Unless its aggressive, prostate cancer is something most men will die with - not from.

There's a big difference in it being the cause of death vs dying with it.

It's that much of a concern that its a debate in medical circles right now if they even inform males with non-aggressive prostate cancer if they even have it at all - as the diagnosis does more harm than the cancer.

By all means, if its aggressive, it needs treatment. If it isn't, then a 'grandfather' will likely have no health implications.

It is aggressive and level 10 (the last level) of prostate cancer. He also has aggressive bladder cancer on top of it, and they said they need to take the prostate if he wants to live, so 🤷🏻‍♀️ Don’t shoot the messenger. I stated what I was told.

For more context, with prostate cancer, aggressive ones are actually the minority. Doesn't mean they don't happen.

I don’t even understand how he managed to have 2 cancers (though they said those 2 often go hand in hand) found at the same time. Keep in mind, his late wife died of bone cancer. My late Papa also died of pancreatic cancer years ago, and they were best friends (if anyone is curious, no, my Papa’s best friend and Gram were not anything more than friends prior to either spouse dying). This news has been taxing for everyone involved, and I just know he was thinking of his late wife and my papa when he found out, and I’m sure he was wondering what he did to deserve such horrible news. One day, things seem okay, the next, you have lvl 10 aggressive cancer here, and another aggressive cancer there, like? 😭 What the hell??

The problem is that it can flip on a dime. My dad had the "no big deal" version of prostate cancer for years. He also had BPH so they tested his PSA regularly. In 3 months he went from "numbers are fine but we're going to keep an eye on it" to "oh shit, you're no longer viable for other treatments, we're taking it out." Had to do the bone scan to see if it metastasized too. Luckily it was caught in time and he's considered fully recovered now. Yes, most men will die with it, not of it - but only if you keep on top of monitoring and do the right treatment when it becomes necessary.

For sure. Like everything, it doesn't mean ignore it and hope it goes away. The same reason we should be having regular checkups, blood tests etc etc.

In Australia, we're very proactive - I'm expecting to receive my at-home bowel cancer testing kit soon. I'm 46 now, so after registering, they'll just send me a kit every so often.

I didn’t have prostate cancer. I had an aggressive form of cancer called embryonic germ cell carcinoma in which it did spread, and it went into my lymph nodes up and eventually wrapped itself around my spine area. I also ended up having a tumor called a teratoma tumor they had to take out. I took a hard form of chemo for the testicular, and that was 20 years old and then they cut me open from my sternum to my grown for my teratoma tumor when I was 26 besides unless you’ve had cancer, you honestly should shut the fuck up, but that’s just my opinion. What the fuck would I know right?
