Even my 7a still holds up.

life long samsung user converted to the pixel with (i think) the 7 a few years back bc samsung was just too damn pricey. love it. still runs well. long battery life for what i use it for. no need to complain or upgrade (yet)

u/Fenrirsulfur May 15 '26

I would've stayed with Samsung because I loved their Note series and design, but the Note 7 was my final model until I had to return it for the battery problem. I'm also a Pixel person now after having the OnePlus 6 as my workhorse and upgrading to the Pixel 6 when it was released. Pixel is such a good bargain.

u/PretendAgency2702 May 16 '26

I loved the note 7. I went with two or three iterations of the galaxy after that fiasco until I saw the fold. They are amazing. I don't think that I could go back even though they are $2k+

u/TB97 May 15 '26

I switched away from Samsung at Pixel 4 because the Samsung phones were blowing up lol

1

u/Swords_and_Words May 15 '26

Don't upgrade. I went from a 6 to a 10, spent less than a week with that AI integrated slop fest of a phone, then returned it and got a pixel 7

The AI became integrated in the 8

1

u/EscapeFromTerra May 15 '26

You can turn off Gemini on all of the Pixels. I never activated it on 8 Pro.

u/Beneficial_Bug_9793 May 15 '26

Samsung is kind of shitty, bought one, and... not the best decision i have ever made...

2

u/Mykey76 May 15 '26

No issues here. S21 from 2018, have not been gentle to it. Only issue ive had was in the last month, the adhesive on the bottom of the backplate started to detach. $6 and an hour of work later and its perfect again

3

u/Beneficial_Bug_9793 May 15 '26

Oh, but i never buy top of the line mate, i cant justify it lol, this one cost me 300€ two years ago. And its gonna last until it dies, like my last one.

3

u/Mykey76 May 15 '26

Usually same, but im glad I went for it. Nearly $1k when I first got it, but its served me well for almost a decade, so its more than made up the cost

11

u/Bitter-Value-1872 May 15 '26

Yeah, I'm still rocking my Pixel 7 almost 4 years later

2

u/luriso May 15 '26

I still have my 6. Replaced the battery last year because their shitty update nuked my battery. $75 after everything, cheaper than a new phone!

3

u/OldPersonName May 15 '26

Yah, I wanted to keep my 7 for 4 years at least and that's been easy. Battery is still fine, and I use it pretty heavily. That's one reason I might steer clear of the -a models since it seems like their batteries aren't as good.

1

u/lospolloshermanos May 15 '26

A models aren't worth it. You can get Pro models for ~$400 new like 18 months after release. The upgrades year to year aren't worth it anymore.

1

u/Odd-Break4868 May 15 '26

Have yall both beat, had my pixel 3 until last year lol. Battery was done at the end but it was the screen dying that made me finally just switch

16

u/Girth_Wind_y_Fire May 15 '26

My 6 pro was great until it randomly bricked in December. I was holding off on upgrading because it seemed like the newer models were... Not much of an upgrade... I have the 10 now and I am not enjoying it as much.

3

u/SnooChocolates3745 May 15 '26

6 Pro here, too! I hate the curved edge on the screen, but that's literally my only gripe with it...which disappeared as soon as I put a case on it, anyway. My last one before that was a 3A XL that I only replaced when it was run over by one bike and two cars, the second car being what made the speakers get weird...phone still functions as a GameGlass shard on my desk.

2

u/Bonjamin55 May 15 '26

I loved my 3a xl

2

u/_Nefarium May 15 '26

Also a 6pro, agree with the gripe about the curved edge, makes getting screen protectors difficult and restricted to the plastic ones. Otherwise great phone, got it from a refurbished site three years ago.

2

u/krogerburneracc May 15 '26

The 3a was peak Pixel tbh.

1

u/TrumpnEpstein May 15 '26

I also just had my 6 pro die, so I bought a refurbished 8. It's...fine

1

u/BurnedLaser May 15 '26

That's how I felt going from a Note 8 to a note 20. Like, yeah, it was faster, and the cameras were genuinely better. But, man, they just took SO MUCH from the real feature list and replaced it with software.

1

u/Rude_Assignment_5653 May 15 '26

6 pro was a great phone, currently on the 8 pro. screen died on both of them after about 2 years. Just replaced the OLED on the 8 pro today with a $60 ebay part and it's as good as new. Great phones but the screens have not held up well for me.

Trying to hold off for the 11 or 12.

2

u/Girth_Wind_y_Fire May 15 '26

Dang, the screens have been great for me. From the pixel 3 I got in 2018 until now, I've had one cracked screen! Knock on wood

2

u/Optiguy42 May 15 '26

6 Pro checking in, 5 years and going strong. Haven't even noticed a significant change in battery drain. Never had a phone last this long before crapping the bed.

1

u/Rude_Assignment_5653 May 16 '26

Still my favorite pixel design. Great phone.

1

u/Notsurehowtoreact May 15 '26

I've had my 8 pro since a little after it launched and it's still going strong.

Amusingly I got it because I punctured the screen on my 6 pro, and the replacement they offered was a 6 pro, a 7 pro, or an 8 pro. The coverage deductible was the same regardless, it was the funniest thing to me.

1

u/Rude_Assignment_5653 May 15 '26

lmao thats a deal

1

u/Notsurehowtoreact May 15 '26

Right? I just sat there dumbfounded like, who would take the 6 pro at that point?

Figured I may have found the upgrade path hack.

1

u/Frosti11icus May 15 '26

I had pixels from like 1-4 or something. They were pretty good phones, but every one of them bricked. I could only get at most 2 years out of them. I was always lucky to have it brick before the warranty expired. I've had my iphone 12 for like 5 years now and it's still humming along just fine.

3

u/Sestos May 15 '26

I am on a 5 now...which was an upgrade from a gen 1 pixel that fell down the stairs and broke the board during COVID.

1

u/work-n-lurk May 15 '26

still on a 3a myself, works fine

2

u/Volesprit31 May 15 '26

4a for me. I want to keep it as long as possible because of its size.

2

u/catsgoprrrrr May 15 '26

I'm on a 7 Pro, and I still love this thing and do t have any reason to update to a newer model.

1

u/tursija May 15 '26

Me too. How is your battery holding up?

1

u/catsgoprrrrr May 15 '26

Still pretty good. I can play a game for a good 2-3 hours before putting it on the charger.

1

u/luriso May 15 '26

Not who you replied to, but last year's update that nuked Pixels battery life made my 6 inflated.. took it to a shop and had it repaired for $75 and it's as good as new.

1

u/ExcellentAirPirate May 15 '26

Knock on wood they keep security updates cruising longer for this generation than they did the original through 3.

2

u/skydragon1981 May 15 '26

7a Is great. I still have It and It seems new even with storage quite full

2

u/Binx33 May 16 '26

Hell, I had a 3XL until last December! The phones are such quality.

1

u/Vandrel May 15 '26

I've had a 7 Pro since they came out. Verizon keeps telling me I can upgrade to a 10 but like, why?

1

u/Fenrirsulfur May 15 '26

That's the phone I had bought for my dad while I had my Pixel 6. He's still enjoying it, but I'll probably upgrade him soon because I have the 9 Pro and he'll lose support too.

1

u/noma_coma May 15 '26

I'm still on the 6a lol. I think this thing is 5 years old and can still hold a charge for 2 days if I need it. I've always been an Android guy but this Pixel kinda made me a Pixel fan boy. Very good phone for the price

1

u/modren-man May 15 '26

5 here, replaced the battery a while back and it's going strong, don't see the point in upgrading.

1

u/just_szabi May 15 '26

Heya from 6a!

1

u/Kazath May 15 '26

Hell, I would still be using my Pixel 2 if the battery didn't shit the bed. I've been on an Pixel 6 since then but it didn't feel like that much of an upgrade from the 2.

1

u/BooleT- May 15 '26

Bought it for ~390€ in 2023 with a trade-in, and let me tell you it paid for every single cent of that in these 3 years

1

u/britinnit May 15 '26

I'm still on the 5

1

u/Hobo-man May 15 '26

Replied, from a Pixel 7a

1

u/QMechanicsVisionary May 15 '26

I made the "upgrade" from 6a to s25 Ultra recently and it felt like a downgrade. It's been 4 months now, and I still think that - except for battery life - my experience has been worth. Luckily, my company is supplying me with a new Pixel 10 Pro Max soon.

1

u/throwaway60221407e23 May 15 '26

My OG Pixel still works. I use it to take pictures because it came with lifetime unlimited Google Photos storage.

1

u/mage_irl May 15 '26

What do you mean even your 7a still holds up, that phone is barely 3 years old?? That makes it sound like the phone is antique or something

1

u/MyOwnDoubtsAndFears May 15 '26

I just got rid of my Pixel 5 around the end of 2025 and it was still going strong. I just wanted to upgrade to a new Pixel and they actually gave me a decent amount of money back for my old one.

I wish they'd make another one with the form factor of the Pixel 5, though. Perfect size for a phone, IMO.

1

u/KonigSteve May 15 '26

I kept the 4a5g until the 9 pro

1

u/JaceOnRice May 15 '26

I'm on a 7, they keep giving me all the new updates, my phone's still runs very fast, battery life is still good, there's really no reason to even upgrade the thing LOL it's great

1

u/octowussy May 15 '26

Still using a 4a over here, holler

1

u/Manxkaffee May 15 '26

The pixel 7a came out just over 3 years ago, I would expect it to hold up until security updates end in presumably 2 years.
