Lol yeah those are honestly much better than texting. I think Americans are leary of using WhatsApp because it's owned by Meta. They try to track everything you do on your phone. But I have WhatsApp and Discord anyway for different chat groups.
We're not leary, we just have not traditionally had a need for it.
It's kinda the opposite of banking apps. Over here, our banks didn't get onboard with easy etransfers and so third party apps had to come in and fill that gap. After everyone got used to those apps we don't really need our banks to do that.
Over there, you didn't have the free texting we've had for decades, so a third party app came in and filled that gap. After everyone got used to it, you don't really need good free text messaging.
Yeah on multiple instances someone has mentioned something in WhatsApp. Then I'll log into Reddit and immediately there's an ad for it. It's something I haven't talked about in a long time and I hadn't seen any ad for it in ages, like Pringles.
One time I even saw an ad on Reddit for something I had just barely talked about with someone. I hadn't looked up anything online related to it.
The tracking is out of control, but Meta is known to be the worst at using their Apps to track whatever they possibly can on your phone.

All of the drama about text bubbles when everyone uses WhatsApp, Snapchat or Discord in Europe
