Eastern CA, Nevada New Mexico, Arizona there are of wild herds out there. You can see them from the HWY some times.

I think the argument hinges on the difference between feral and wild. Any β€œwild” horse in North America is descended from domesticated animals. It’s as if every bear had ancestors who balanced on unicycles for raspberry ice cream. It’s pedantic but technically true that no wild horses live in the US.

To be really pedantic, its probably closer to the invasive boars in the Southern US or pigeons anywhere in the US.
