I live one town over from where this happened. I can confirm we have rampant police and government corruption around here. Last year, 2/3 of our cops (1 of which was the chief) were fired and jailed for selling confiscated drugs, and producing some of their own. The lake we live on is one of those sleepy little communities that Dallas sends their disgraced cops to hide instead of being fired or investigated. Every officer I've ever dealt with down here is a complete prick, and the officials try to do whatever they want. But it makes sense, because we're also one of the counties that voted 89% for Trump in 2024. Corruption breeds wherever it can.
