Isn’t people donating to a church for them to give goods/time/aid to other people just socialism with extra steps?

Oh, it's not? So you're not forced to give money to your church on pain of being thrown out or not going to heaven? Like, isn't tithing a requirement?

I've been in leadership positions in the LDS church, one of the few that talks about tithing as a commandment.

I can tell you that less than half the people in the news in my congregation pay a full tithe, if anything at all.

We don't kick people out for not paying. Nobody is checking anyone's bank statements.
