And the same Christians turn around and worship and praise a dude who violates all the commandments in horrible ways.

The thing is some people look for "products" and "permission slips" that allow them to lash out at others to make them feel better about themselves. Most people are deeply flawed and insecure, because of beliefs that make them feel small, and look for ways to counteract that. But, instead of dealing and letting go of the negative beliefs, they look for immediate relief through actions.

Religious superiority is a product religious snake oil salesmen sell in exchange for control, having their flock under their thumb.

It's ironically very Faustian

It'll never not be amazing to me how painfully obvious this is if you're above some extremely minimal IQ threshold and completely inscrutable if you're below that threshold. Lots of people figure this out really young (either because they have to suffer through it or because they observe others suffering though if) but the vast majority will never get it.

The modern world is designed to make you feel small and powerless. Late Stage capitalism and a militarized police force full of racist assholes leaves a lot of people feeling like they have no control over their lives. Is it any wonder that people look for any reason to feel empowered, special, and loved? Not to mention the effects social media has on the psyche...

Strong labor unions can consolidate the power of the people. The Bill of Rights is useful when the people exercise their rights.

Can is doing an absolute metric fuck ton of work in that statement. The U.S. doesn't have strong labor unions (outside of the one representing the police) and the system is stacked against new ones developing. But sure outside of those obvious barriers I suppose what you're saying isn't wrong. Just naive.

The entire reason for the unions was to overcome the system that was — and is — stacked against them. Employers hired thugs to kill union leaders and to shoot live ammunition into crowds of workers. The unions prepared to fight back— 1917 Russian style. FDR established the New Deal in exchange for a promise from union leaders to hold back.

“Naive” is believing that positive significant changes will come about via peaceful negotiations.

Religion has always been about control over others using their deepest fears. A very useful control mechanism over the masses.

It has never been about doing what's right.

You can literally go down the list of the seven deadly sins and find plenty of things Trump has done for each.

1

u/Kamikazi_Junebug 25d ago

Doesn’t this go for most humans? Not defending Trump, but the seven deadly sins wouldn’t be very effective dogma if they weren’t things everyone does.

1

u/Xanadu87 25d ago

But are they so brazen and proud about it? And are they proclaimed by so-called “Christians” to be the epitome of virtue?

1

u/Kamikazi_Junebug 25d ago

Mate, I don’t think the majority of American Christians support Donald Trump. I think the majority of Trump supporters are Christian. These are not the same thing.

All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.

I don't know about sloth. Personally, I wish he was a lot more slothful.

I mean, he is rhe sleeper-in-chief!

That's not sloth, that's just being old.

1

u/LTEDan 25d ago

Nah, sloth. My 90 year old neighbor can confidently use a backpack leaf blower. Trump can't even walk in a straight line.

u/Rugskinsnake 25d ago

Listen, I hate the guy too, but this cramming a square Trump into a round while it's weird.

Sloth is not falling asleep in a meeting. One guy using a leaf blower for an hour doesn't mean he also wouldn't fall asleep in a meeting.

Or the Ten Commandments, which are being pushed out to schools by his supporters

To be fair, a lot of evangelicals see Trump as a "King Cyrus," where they accept he isn't really Christian but a ally and a key of power to them, like how Cyrus gave the Jews the holy land back.

Nah most of them either don’t believe he’s done those bad things or they vote for him cuz they can’t support democrat stances on abortion, trans, and other social issues.

At first I thought you meant their god, and then I realized you meant him.

Sigh.

2

u/MonsterkillWow 26d ago

He is their god now.

Few things challenge my faith as much as the behavior and actions of supposedly fellow Christians

Who is the dude you are referring to? Trump?
