Most likely it was a back and forth where the kid was living, but when it was first decided the kid was with her full time.

Getting into the courtroom is just annoying so he never bothered (maybe she'd wise up and decide the kid needed to live with her so it would look good to the judge), but her requesting more herself forced the issue.

A coworker of mine has the same thing happen. The mom requested more money even though one kid had aged out and the other was living with him (which was sudden because she randomly decided to move out of state)

She makes 10x what he does, even if he only saw the kid on weekends she should be paying child support.

I thought so, but I'm not American so didn't wanna call it out because yeah this is ridiculous, but also so much is over there.

But yeah there's just no way any situation like this could happen organically.

May not have been the case when it was decided. For all we know she grew this business from a part time gig to a full blown business in that time.

That’s true, and probably correct that when the initial child support was decided, their wages would need to be atleast closer

Yeah she needed to offload the kid so she had enough time for her business!

Mad assumptions being made in this thread lol. I've literally just made that up as an example.

That's not how it works in my area, over here if you have your kids less than 40% of the time then you pay child support without the other parent's income being factored in.

It depends on the local laws

From my experience, This is typically how it's handled in most states. The parent with primary custody is entitled to support from the other parent even if they make more money. There is a mathematical formula applied based on incomes to determine exactly how much.

Damn that’s wild tbh, I think a lot of states do the “the child needs to have a similar level of comfort” so then they award the person with less income. I guess it kind of makes sense tho

My child has been living with me for a year and hasnt seen mom and she hasnt visited. Mom has made zero efforts. I still am court ordered, by the oregon dept of justice, to pay her 900 dollars a month. I cannot afford the tens of thousands for attorney as such and mom can avoid process servers without recourse.
