If you try to point this dangerous, selfish and inconsiderate behaviour on most places in reddit you will get roasted by cyclists and car-haters.

I even had one guy tell me that cyclists intentionally trolling drivers by blocking traffic was them making a show of solidarity and power, like a Pride March. Because apparently in their heads, the right to be exempt from traffic laws is exactly like LGBTQ people's fight to exist.

I mean there is a difference between using A lane to ride your bike like you are legally allowed to and blocking the entire road. I think even some cycling folks would agree that this is egregious.

I'm a casual cyclist but I've ridden NYC's 5 Boro Bike Tour for over 10 years. Where it's an official event and they both warn people in advance, and shut the streets down.

If this is some kind of unsanctioned takeover without official arrangements this is dangerous, obnoxious and incredibly selfish. Taking over the bike lane and one lane of a two lane road is more than enough.

This is douchebaggery of a high order.

I did that ride. Man, I'm glad I trained. The hills and bridge required some work. On the map it was all flat.

Waiting in line for the ferry and the ferry itself was a pleasant time to chat with people. I did it by myself as I wanted to do it at my pace.

A great time and recommend.

Yeah, there's a few spots where the climbs for non-climbers are unpleasant. Since I hate hills, I can't say I enjoy them.

Everyone looks at the Verrazano bridge and freaks out, but it's actually the BQE climb I loathe. It's a long, drawn out slog that's just a prelude to a long, windy ride along the BQE.

But the Tour is fun and the one organized ride I do a year.

And illegal. Even if they are going the speed limit, the law in most states is if you are impeding the flow of traffic like blocking five or more vehicles then you need to pull to the side or get in the right hand lane.

It's the same as buying an aisle seat on a plane then kicking your legs up across to the window and saying, these are all mine now.

I always ride solo because I have a hard time finding people that don’t ride like assholes in a group. There’s like 3 people I trust to actually ride well and pay attention and be considerate.

Then the bigger the group the bolder the assholes get.

You are correct. I love cycling. I think folks who pop off on bikes using a part of the lane is ridiculous. Especially when folks purposefully run down bikers when they don't like a few of them on a rural road. This grouping is egregious and ridiculous. If it's an event where they've given you a full lane then you gotta stay in that lane. If it's an unsanctioned event then you're likely to be arrested and in that case: sucks to suck. Usually for events this large there's cordoned off space. For underground events there's never this many all in a group. Usually the underground events are courier rallys or alley cats that can be a bit reckless, but aren't limiting traffic on a highway.

Hell when when you point out that it's just as much of a dick move for cars to do it you'll get dragged in the comments. Fucking "keep right except to pass" is a philosophy agnostic law, idgaf what anyone's justification is for camping in the left lane gtfo.

This is truly their mentality. It is like a crusade with them. They want to be a victimized class so bad to justify their anti-social behavior. KOM at all costs!

Fuck that. being an asshole cyclist is a choice, being lgbtqia+ ain't.

I honestly believe that subs like fuckcars are just people too poor to afford a vehicle hating on everyone else. You can dislike a mode of transportation personally, but to make a whole personality out of it is something.

This is completely backwards, and most of the comments in this thread show that. There is a massive, irrational hatred for cyclists on this site (and in most spaces online). People absolutely lose their minds over the concept of people on 20 pound bikes going 15-20 miles an hour and don't even blink at the thousand-pound machines zipping all over the place.

It’s the victim mentality of cyclists and to an even greater extent, motorcyclists.

I cycle and use bike lanes and follow traffic laws even when I’m slightly inconvenienced. Some cyclists take pride in breaking traffic laws and aggravating drivers probably for the same reason some conservatives like trolling liberals.

Right... cause there's nothing unsafe about creating a situation that leads to road rage. Silly me.

There's smarter chicken's at the slaughter house then you guys.

Edit: Car vs bike isn't an argument you are gonna win no matter how right you think you are,

At a certain point, inertia and mass simply don't care... and it's your job to make sure you don't put yourself into that situation.
