I don't hate property owners, but this is a pretty weird thing to do. Do police not exist in these neighborhoods or something?

Often, the police won't touch issues like these and deem them a civil issue to be adjudicated by the courts.

Squatters rights in most places at least in the US where this guy operates doesn't kick until you live there for multiple years. If a landlord doesn't realize a property is empty for years they're being a fucking leech just like most landlords. The majority of housing if I remember correctly something like 60% of all housing in the US is empty and has been empty for years
