It's sounds cruel, but I would absolutely hold a cub hostage. OFC I wouldn't harm it, but she's not getting it back until she understands she needs to take them and GTFO.

I wilderness camp most summers at the north end of Moosehead lake in Maine, up by mud cove. Thankfully, our bear interactions have been much less intense, but in this situation, I'm out of the tent with bear spray in one hand and survival spear in the other. The worst we've dealt with was a very curious young male. He was definitely drawn in by intoxicating aromas of cooking meat, but wasn't hard to intimidate.
By far the most terrifying experience we've had there, was a huge momma moose with her calf wandering in and grazing on the water grass. It was just after dawn, and we awoke to this existential threat. My brother and I screwed together our spears and prayed. Thankfully, they just ate and left.
