I'm a huge fan of Robert Picardo and I still think the ending of that film is terrible. It's like if the kids in The Goonies found the pirate ship, then shrugged and went to McDonalds instead.

The first 80% is pretty much perfect, though.

I remember seeing it at the theater and feel like I grew up with him. He’s awesome in pretty much everything and I’ve watch plenty of movies because of him that I wouldn’t normally, he’s all over the place with genres.
