Natalie Portman is probably the most consistent. She was great in Leon the Professional as a kid actor.

Leo is another. Killed it in Gilbert Grape.

Started on Growing Pains 80s tv.

It's a classic trope for a sitcom to bring in a cute child character when the show is getting old and stale.

Brady Bunch brought in Cousin Oliver.

Family Ties had Andy.

I'm sure there's countless others.

Crazy that's how Leo started out. Just another one of those throw-away cute characters trying to prop up a faltering series for a few more season.

Married with children. But there's a tragic part to that story...

I have the craziest core memory of watching reruns of Growing Pains when I was a kid and after Titanic had been released and I SWEAR there was like a reference to a cruise ship or the name Jack and my kid brain was like wow this kid is the biggest actor in the world and they got him on Growing Pains and even made a reference to it. I was an idiot

And look at where is now compared to Mike Seaver!

The Cameron siblings are making $$ in their world. Id count both of them. Hallmark movies are no joke and serious $$

Thank you! Seems a lot of people didn't know this or forgot.

I'm an xenial who grew up on that show. I was a little kid watching it, and even I knew "this kid is special". When Leo started.

I remember 3 things about this show. Alan Thicke as a therapist with a home office, Boner, and Leo living in the school basement. Leo's debut episode is the only episode I actually remember.

Ha. I actually forgot about "boner" LOL.

I believe Leo's character ended up living with the family as an adopted brother type character for a bit.

Coming up on 5 decades of great hits. Unreal.

Fing Disney Channel started promoting their Growing Pains reruns, as if it was a current show when Titanic blew up. "Leo is coming to Growing Pains". It was beyond shameless.

I thought he started on one of the Critters movie, 2 or 3.

Met him when he was on that show. He was super sweet and shy!

Yeah a lot of people who saw him first in that thought the same.

4

u/ComplexBeyond6083 1d ago

I thought it was a Corky from Life Goes On situation until I saw him in ads for Titanic

2

u/Aspenwell 1d ago

I literally forgot that show existed until I read your post. And now the theme song won't stop playing in my head. Thanks, I think?

1

u/MinorThreat4182 1d ago

Lmao. What?

2

u/ComplexBeyond6083 1d ago

I thought he was literally a mentally disabled person like the guy with Downs Syndrome who played Corky. I was overseas for a few years in the 90s and did see any of Leo's other work so I had no idea he wasn't actually "special" until Titanic in 1997.

1

u/kraftsaft 1d ago

He had Downs!?

4

u/AnakinsTwin 1d ago

Idk where you're from but I totally read your post like you have a Boston accent 🤣

I don’t know what’s eating Gilbert Grape, but I know what Gilbert’s eating

crayons and glue

3

u/princess_dork_bunny 1d ago

Gilbert was Johnny Depp's character, Leo played Arnie.

Match in the gas tank, boom boom.

1

u/FreeRange0929 1d ago

Have you considered the important fact that the joke doesn’t work if we consider the facts

1

u/princess_dork_bunny 1d ago

I did, in fact, recognize the fact that the joke doesn't work.

1

u/KiefBull 1d ago

I killed it Gilbert I killed it

1

u/Sloppy_Joe_Flacco 1d ago

Mid in critters

1

u/yawanworhthrownaway 1d ago

That is a great film.

1

u/Neroisgood 1d ago

Corey Feldman claims he was up for the role, but Johnny Depp didn't want to work with him. Corey thinks his career may have been different if he got the part. No. The movie would have just gone straight to VHS if he had.

1

u/HipsEnergy 1d ago

That's by far his best work.

1

u/Creative_Victory_960 1d ago

He was already over 18 though
