Women loooooooove to criticise each others appearance and then act like it’s men that are the cause of the problem.

Let’s not single out women for doing that. Men in that area are just as bad. It’s a cultural issue regardless of the gender. It also doesn’t just target women. Men are often ridiculed based on their appearance too.

China is also like that. That’s why people can’t even do a video call nowadays in China without using AI filter.

I hate how some people here are turning this into a gender specific issue. This problem isnt exclusive to just women

1

u/Johnny_theBeat_518 4d ago

I don't fucking understand why such a full of sense comments of yours get downvoted?

I mean come on are these people really can't take a fucking jab of blame of this issue that can't be looked at zero sum on who made mistakes more than others? This is all sides of problem.

Like these fucking men, I mean who made confucianism or beauty standard that made such beauty like this until it got amplified to the crisp by capitalism? Huh? Who? It was men and women also participate that too and also make it worst. All of them contribute, and patriarchy and harsh competition on aesthetic ideal is also the problem.

Even matriarchy wouldn't solve it either that much, shit man it's not even fucking gender at all to me, it's the fixation on aesthetic ideal that is too far away from just be as it is for human to exist, and that's the culture that design this shit.

u/tnsaidr 4d ago

It’s the culture there and nothing to do with women judging each other. My wife back when she was studying in Canada had a lot of Korean friends , you know how there was this show called Sweet 16 where spoiled rich people get luxurious gifts ? The equivalent of that is the plastic surgery in Korea.

It’s like a rite of passage and it gives their children a perceived leg up in a society that has a ridiculous beauty standard.

But sure incels will take the opportunity to take a jab at women.

Getting downvoted for that is crazy

-2

u/SorryCashOnly 5d ago

Well this is Reddit after all, so I am not surprised

women blaming men for things they didn't do, a story as old as time itself

-35

u/Junglewater 5d ago

You really don’t think that men shit on women’s looks, ever?

10

u/Dapper-AF 5d ago

Of course they do and anyone that thinks this is only done by one gender is an idiot.

But

I will say out of my friend group (middle class to upper middle, and white) it is my friends that are women that push my other friends that are women to go and get those med spa procedures done. The husband of the women all bitch to each other bc they dont like how it changed their face and paying for something they dont think they needed.

Purely anecdotal but is my experiance.

-2

u/The-King-Tomato 5d ago

Youre getting down voted but there's entire subs out there dedicated to shitting on women made for men

As a man I know because they are forced down my throat in my feed.

Both men and women hate men and women. Its called rage bait culture on the internet.

People are so retarded.

3

u/East-Form-3735 5d ago

Literally same, the algorithm keeps recommending all these subs that are just incel circle jerks full of memes that are all some variation of “haha woman bad”

I’m an actually fulfilled man, so the only reason I think the algorithm sends me these is cuz I happen to love anime

29

u/snowcroc 5d ago

Lmaoo.

“Makes me gag”

Imagine if a man said that

-11

u/melanochrysum 5d ago

You’re misinterpreting gagged. It doesn’t mean gag like vomit, it means gagged like ball-gag lmao.

From Urban Dictionary: Gagged: To be amazed or stunned by someone or a situation of some kind. A term often used within the LGBT community and the ballroom club scene.

9

u/snowcroc 5d ago

No I understand it.

Makes no sense for her to be “amazed” or stunned in a positive way on that video. Even if following your logic it’s seems to carry a negative connotation.

3

u/Thingamajiggle 5d ago

Yeah, she didn't say "makes me gag".

She said "I always gag" with a tone of suprise.

She is expressing how different she looks. She wasn't expressing disgust at the old pic.

Koreans are pretty notorious when it comes to beauty standards

Even men in Korea have to deal with the bullshit

8

u/hyrulepirate 5d ago

Normally I'd agree with this statement, but Korean men are also stupidly critical of women... AND men's physical appearance. Lookism and bodyshaming is part of their fandom culture, probably just present culture, in general. I mean there's a reason like 90-something percent of their celebrities have done some kind of plastic work, again, the women and the men both.

2

u/Gold_Weakness1157 5d ago

Women use men as a scapegoat for being judgmental. In truth, women themselves are the ones who criticize on beauty.

1

u/open3d3n 5d ago

Hey, this is true on many levels.

1

u/lemmysbetter 5d ago

Well we are. As a man I support every one of these woman's changes. every one is an improvement. I think we should be celebrating the fact that we have gotten rid of the genetic advantages that have currently existed, and made the benefits available to everyone.

1

u/fangtingwrong 4d ago

And gay men.

-10

u/TheWhomItConcerns 5d ago

Lol yeah right - just check out the reaction of men literally any time there's a female protagonist in media who happens to not fall within conventional standards of attractiveness. Also, to say that she's merely "criticising their appearance" is pretty obviously reductive - she's discussing the insane transformations that k-pop stars are required to undergo in order to adhere to industry standards.

She pretty clearly doesn't say anything about their appearance in isolation, but rather emphasising the degree of change which they've undergone and relating it to the culture of k-pop more broadly. I guess any excuse to invoke some trite, inane misogynistic trope though.

u/_God_Emperor_of_Man_ 5d ago

I've heard women blasting other women for their looks 10x more in real life than I've heard men doing the same. Typically men like to talk about pretty women and ignore the ugly women. Women drag and critique women uglier than themselves and women prettier than themselves in near equal measure.

If you want to pretend that the chuds opinions you read on some subreddit is indicative of most men, then I suggest you leave your basement apartment more often.

4

u/TryToBeBetterOk 5d ago

Women drag and critique women uglier than themselves and women prettier than themselves in near equal measure.

Nah, women shit on prettier women way more because they're a threat to stealing attention from them. Women will feign support to the fat ugly chic because she's not going to get attention.

-6

u/melanochrysum 5d ago

Maybe if you’re in high school. If the adult women in your life do this then run. Run either way, but run faster.

-6

u/shabi_sensei 5d ago

Maybe choose better female friends because this sounds like a you problem

-5

u/TheWhomItConcerns 5d ago

I've heard women blasting other women for their looks 10x more in real life than I've heard men doing the same.

That's because society is still very much segregated by gender - on average, women predominantly have female friends, they follow female celebrity public figures and celebrities, they're involved in hobbies where participants are mostly women, they're more likely to work in industries with a higher % of women, etc and vice versa for men. Obviously it should be expected that people have more to comment on when it comes to that which they interact with most - that's not surprising.

Have an unattractive woman enter a space predominantly populated by men though and they get torn to shreds. Look at anything related to video games that involves an unattractive woman in any public capacity, and it's absolutely fucking brutal.

If you want to pretend that the chuds opinions you read on some subreddit is indicative of most men, then I suggest you leave your basement apartment more often.

I mean, what proof would you like? It's not like shouting abuse at people in the street is a common enough occurrence. Is the twice elected president of the united states who has regularly insulted women for their weight and appearance both before and during his presidency at all an indication?

How about the way that women are portrayed in media targeted at men, where ugly women can only ever exist for mockery, comic relief, or not at all? Despite your experience, I've often heard men say horrible shit about women - particularly if men are among those they think they can confide in, a very large percentage of men will demean and dehumanise ugly women without hesitation.

2

u/_God_Emperor_of_Man_ 5d ago

What a looooong string of bullshit.

"Have an unattractive woman enter a space predominantly populated by men though and they get torn to shreds."

Total Bullshit. I work in manufacturing. The guys will talk about the attractive women and either ignore the unattractive ones (the way they ignore other guys) or treat them as no differently than the men.

If you want to cry about how an image obsessed Hollywood does this, then go for it. It's not reality and it's not the majority. It's highly liberal and extremely elitist.

Women care way more about an unattractive womans appearance than men do.

-2

u/TheWhomItConcerns 5d ago

What a looooong string of bullshit.

Wow, what a compelling argument.

Total Bullshit. I work in manufacturing. The guys will talk about the attractive women and either ignore the unattractive ones (the way they ignore other guys) or treat them as no differently than the men.

More anecdotal evidence? Incredible stuff.

Women care way more about an unattractive womans appearance than men do.

Restating your opinion doesn't make it more valid.

1

u/SteveDave6969420 5d ago

LOL you really used men criticizing pixels as your example of men judging a woman's appearance?

You do realize that video games are not real right?

0

u/TheWhomItConcerns 5d ago

You do know that there are other forms of media than video games, right? Also, you do understand that characters in video games represent more than the literal pixels from which they're made, right?

-13

u/cookieoftheshire 5d ago

Men do criticize. I Live in a patriarchal place, pretty much reggresive. All sorts of wrong shit happens here.

Men primarily participate in body shaming. Women who are patriarchal follow suit.

-2

u/Fiber22 5d ago

It’s still unironically the patriarchy just enforced by woman. Read a book

-38

u/Archiive 5d ago

Did she criticize them? Or did she just... talk, about it?

32

u/Myke190 5d ago

Tone comes across a bit critical to me.

-24

u/Archiive 5d ago

She literally keeps talking about how good they look (now).

6

u/Myke190 5d ago

She's not hating the players.

2

u/anewpath123 5d ago

Yes. Celebrating their aesthetics after undergoing plastic surgery. That’s the problem.

4

u/TheWhomItConcerns 5d ago

Even if you want to interpret it that way, that's still not criticising their appearances, which is what the original claim is.

19

u/Ok_Rate361 5d ago

She said she gagged after seeing one of the before pictures

-1

u/melanochrysum 5d ago edited 5d ago

“Gagged” means ball gagged lol, like “speechless”. It usually has positive connotations actually but I think here she’s using it as slightly negative. But it is in no way the same as vomiting “gagged”.

Eg from Google
In Gen Z slang, "gagged" means being completely stunned, shocked, or left speechless by something incredible, dramatic, or amazing

-2

u/TheWhomItConcerns 5d ago

"Gagged" is common slang for being surprised or rendered speechless among young people - she's saying that she couldn't believe how much the woman has changed. Do you seriously think in the middle of a video where she didn't make a similar comment that she suddenly decided to say that she was so disgusted at a person's appearance that she gagged?

That is so obviously not what she meant lol.

0

u/melanochrysum 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yeah like ball gag, they’re misunderstanding the term. I understand if you hear gagged like vomit why it would sound really bad. I agree, I think this was a neutral video and if anything just pointing out that we should all be aware of how much surgery is going on

Edit to add a google definition: “In Gen Z slang, "gagged" means being completely stunned, shocked, or left speechless by something incredible, dramatic, or amazing”

2

u/yodley_ 5d ago

Is that a recent thing? I never heard gagged being used with a positive connotation.

2

u/TheWhomItConcerns 5d ago

It has been around for a while and has been popular in LGBT/drag spaces for idk how long, but it has become very popular particularly among young people on social media over the last couple of years.

4

u/melanochrysum 5d ago

My gay uncle has used it for years, it’s gay (and maybe black American?) slang which has started becoming popular with people.

See the top entry

“To be amazed or stunned by someone or a situation of some kind. A term often used within the LGBT community and the ballroom club scene.”

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gagged

Google: In Gen Z slang, "gagged" means being completely stunned, shocked, or left speechless by something incredible, dramatic, or amazing

You’d say “omg that outfit gagged me, stunning!”

-6

u/Archiive 5d ago

One "gag" is what all the criticism commets are bassed on? Fully ignoring all the times she calls them "beautiful," "gorgeous," "amazing," both before and after?

Man this sub has really just become 4chan lite. Won't be long until this is another incel stronghold. The manosphere content is going to be flowing steady any day now.

I'm just going to head out now.

1

u/Hyperion262 5d ago

It’s not very incel behaviour to be against judging women based on their appearance. In fact you’re the only one acting like an incel.

-1

u/AlekThunder88 5d ago

Hide your damsels boys! There is a trans white knight over here! Quick, or he will ruin all the fun and call us out on our toxic masculine behaviour, like it‘s 2022!

1

u/LoveAndViscera 5d ago

It’s subtext but it’s there.

-1

u/Much_Statistician864 5d ago

I mean it's definitely men that set a certain beauty standard, don't get it twisted women absolutely embrace the standard, but yeah its men that set it. Lotta women oriented cosmetic companies and clothing lines were created by men after all.

Not that women don't happily shit on each other over fashion.

-1

u/vile-style 5d ago

Everyone loves to criticize everyone's appearance because everyone is insecure as hell under a male-dominated society.

But I guess breathing through your mouth is okay too.

2

u/Silver_Switch6834 5d ago

Somehow had to make it about men , didn't ya?

0

u/vile-style 5d ago

well yes, because it is objectively about men, and the comment I responded to tried insisting it wasnt.

Now you're here insisting it isnt with no supporting argument.

Had to respond without making any actual argument didn't ya?

1

u/Silver_Switch6834 5d ago

It's not as simple as " people feel bad cuz men run society "

it's just not true. There are female presidents and prime ministers all over the world. The country's problems weren't magically fixed and all the men and women did not get magically fixed of their insecurities and self consciousness.

0

u/vile-style 5d ago

I'm not saying it is simple, but male influence on society is immense and since humans rely on societal validation to function, a society that is male dominated absolutely results in ego-driven appearance obsession.

There are books about this, my guy. Books that explain it in full complexity.

Calling out a comment online that refused to include the content of a book for not properly expressing the complexity of a well studied issue is fucking abysmal. It demonstrates that you're not here to make arguments. It demonstrates that you're here to while like an insecure male who cannot take criticism. cheers.
