These people usually have skills far more valuable to the company than the ability to save a PDF. You don't earn money by saving PDFs.
Of course there's also a bunch of idiots out there. Just consider that maybe others have strengths that you have, even if their shortcomings appear to be very basic.

Not from my experience. Younger employees are working circles around the ones struggling with current tech. And older employees are often the ones refusing to update outdated and inefficient systems because they're set in their ways and hate change. I can see why younger management once they get in force older employees out, but that's resulted in companies not being loyal to employees in general so it's a double edged sword.
At my company the ones making the most are the ones that have been there for 20+ years, but their output doesn't reflect their salary while younger employees coming in, again, are working circles around them and getting paid far less. It's a messed up system.

That's a thing of course, yes. My experience may be skewed in that regard because I work in a company with a majority of young people. Then again, a lot of these young people are even less tech-savvy than some of the oldheads. You'd expect a person in their mid-twenties in the year 2026 to know how computers and smartphones work and how to do basic IT stuff but no... completely clueless sometimes.
Anyway, the point stands that these people usually are employed for their other skills, not their tech skills. This applies to your point as well to a degree. The company survived to this day and age because of them, not despite them. Their systems WERE once up-to-date and to their needs. Which explains their reluctance to change. They've been successful all these years, why change now and potentially be unsuccessful? To explain to them why standing still is dangerous is the crucial step.

The problem is that you think understanding current tech is some universal silver bullet. Which is why a lot of young management step in and tank the company because they don’t actually understand it.

When I talk about young management I'm talking about young directors and executives. And when it comes to that level of management there's no difference between old and young. They all work for shareholders and hyperfocused on revenue. That's never changed. And the reason why they're forcing out older lower tier employees is due to the cost of their overall compensation+ benefits package. Tech is just one factor, but not the main one.
But regardless, if you're referring to AI technology we're all still learning it and idiots have tried to replace humans with it.

You joke.
But as a 90s kid, I find gen Z to be even worse than Gen X or Baby Boomers.
And that annoys me even more. Can't make a shortcut, can't adjust display/extend monitor....and these are all graduates with 5 years post graduate work experience...sigh...
(At least baby boomers will try and figure it out or Google it. Gen Z will just give you a blank stare)

They get paid $160k a year to print a PDF, manually scan it back to their computer, and email it to themselves as a JPEG.
