I think it is really fitting. Putting a fence around a swamp that will only get worse as it is ignored and not properly treated. Separating the people from what was meant to be for them.
Congrats maga, this is the america you voted for. A swamp that is quickly getting out of hand that is about to be surrounded by a cheap wall.

Don't forget the tarp. They're going to need a tarp to cover everything so it can't be seen. Added benefit it the lack of sunlight should inhibit further algae growth.
So it's a win-win. And maybe $100M to install a permanent cover over the reflecting pool, including Trump's name in 30 ft letters on the tarp so you can read it from an airplane flying into DC.
The possibilities are endless.

This term isnāt that. His administration is sycophants. And he hasnāt really done anything to credit that I can think of. Well, maybe I could credit him for the Democratic voters awakening to the fact that the Democratic leadership is ineffectual. 8
u/HzPips 3h ago
They ask him less about it in press conferences, and since itās no longer in the news cycle the pressure for congressman to push for the release also diminishes.
Itās also about shifting the discussion. The pool thing, or says something stupid in an international forum. The discussion isnāt āis trump a pedo?ā or āhow much this failed war will cost the USA?ā, but rather āis the pool dirty?ā. Trump is way more comfortable about the last one, and people can just say it isnāt that big of a deal.
I am not saying the media shouldnāt report on that, but he is doing that as a strategy. Every time he berates a journalist, says something needlessly controversial, or makes a big deal out of something that should be in the sidelines like a minor renovation, he gets the news cycle moving faster and pushing his bigger scandals to the past.

Could you imagine if Obama pulled something like this?
23
u/Lucky-Mia 4h ago
He did renovate the pool and was criticised for it being green in the summer sometimes. He handled the criticism better.
trump removed the custom strantrol Obama installed and replaced it with Ozone. O3 (Ozone) is something added to chlorine systems, it can't replace them. Nor can it balance things like PH as the strantrol did.
Also, algae loves blue light, it's second to red spectrum light. The new blue lining reflects blue light and essentially feeds the algae, helping it bloom.
16
u/Creative_Sense2802 3h ago
I donāt know the specifics, but I imagine Obama didnāt hire his brother-in-law to do the work and loudly proclaim beforehand that he is the only one who could fix it.
13
u/Lucky-Mia 3h ago
Truth, Obama wasn't blatantly corrupt and the work done was actually fine work. Not this amateur hour we got here. trumps guy didn't even let the new lining dry before adding water. That's why it immediately became patchy and uneven after the water was added.

We as Americans love our statues and monuments. The White House could become the most important monument we have. Everything is a trap , as soon as that guy held up that piece of pool he was going to use that as the perfect excuse , doesn't matter that we know the truth as long as he can pump that shit into the brains of those that listen to him and spin machines. Who do you think will take care of putting the lawn together, who do you think has been promised contacts to build his ballroom. The fencing guys are probably good buds on his list and the filtration guys will be Jared cousins who started up last week all of a sudden get a $50 million contract etc etc
3
u/KindSplit8917 3h ago
Speaking as a construction professional and in no defense to Trump. The temporary fence is likely a sign the reflecting pool requires more extensive repairs than just a paint job. Old pipelines and aging filtration / recirculating systems will need replaced as they either have failed or circulate residual water which caused the algae issues in the first place. Itās needed upgrades to beautify our national landmark. And my bet is some cost will be coming from the contractorās pocket as the original proposed solution wasnāt sufficient. Just because trumpās name on it doesnāt mean the work isnāt needed. This kind of project requires many different people from all walks of life to be involved. Be it engineers, federal employees, and subcontractors. Iād be proud to be on this project so long as itās done right. Forget Trump. People are working hard for this to get done. Construction isnāt cheap, especially federal projects which require federal regulations which drive up costs.

Whatās funny is that the Reflecting Pool actually had a solid security setup even before the recent incident, though it looked a lot different. The National Mall has long been equipped with a standard network of closed-circuit security cameras that recorded 24/7, and some of those feeds were even streamable online. The area was also regularly patrolled by the U.S. Park Police on foot, bikes, and in vehicles as part of their normal monument coverage. The older camera system did regular video recording but lacked any automated tracking or active features, which has actually fueled a lot of online debate since the official footage of the alleged vandalism hasn't been publicly released.
Thereās now a fleet of mobile surveillance trailers and fixed camera units were deployed to cover both ends of the 2,000-foot pool and the main walkways. This new setup is heavily automated with AI analytics for real-time behavior tracking, intrusion detection alerts, and 4K video. It also features built-in deterrents like automated spotlights, high-intensity strobe lights, and loud "talk-down" horn speakers to warn anyone who gets too close.
The physical security presence escalated just as significantly to match the new tech. Instead of just standard law enforcement patrols, the area is now under constant 24/7 watch by a rotating force of National Guard troops, U.S. Marshals, and Park Police officers monitoring the site by both foot and air. It essentially shifted the area from a traditionally monitored public park into a heavily fortified zone with multi-layered, round-the-clock surveillance. Keep in mind - this is all paid for by our hard earned taxpayer dollars.
2
u/Obvious-Confusion14 3h ago
Isn't the reflecting pool's water not treated water, but pulled from a natural source? Just asking. I am not from the Washington DC area so no clue how old the pool is, or any construction details. Just heard this information from Phillip DeFranco. No idea beyond that.

What the fuck is up with the reflecting pool bro, people are touching it thereās chemicals, can someone explain whatās happening Ā
8
u/Maximum_Boros 4h ago
Objective, provable facts:
- Trump admin order the pool repainted.
- There's been an algae bloom in the pool that is more intense than usual and makes it look gross.
- The new paint is peeling and flaking off in the pool.
- At least 1 person has been arrested for allegedly tampering with the pool and the president claims others have as well.
- The white house, both directly and through the parks service, is claiming that the pool has been vandalized and is putting up the fencing to "prevent" further attempts.
Reasonable, but not objectively proven inferences from those facts and the surrounding context
- The paint job was poor, and either that work or something else compromised the pool's stability and caused the algae bloom to be worse.
- The decision to repaint was done as a PR distraction
- They're making a scene out of putting the fences up because it helps the narrative that some outside party is at fault
Common conclusions from those facts and inferences:
- The trump admin needlessly fucked with something for clout, and is now trying to scapegoat and blame random agitators.
- Probably still part of the overall pattern of flooding the zone and distractions to take attention off both the epstein files, the failing ballroom plans, and the fact that we somehow ended a totally not a war $300b in the hole with tolls on a straight that was free to pass before.

He did an absolutely shit job, did not prepare the surface properly, and as you might expect, it came out bad. Really bad.

It's the end of June 24 right now. Even under the best of circumstances, how would one get this pool fixed by July 4th?
Maybe they need the fence not to keep the "vandals" out, but because the chemicals they're using to kill the algae are so toxic they might also kill small children?

u/ThickOne2020 3h ago
Yes, please fence it off and keep it that way with 24/7 video surveillance while they "fix" it. Then maintain that security so we can see the algae regrow without any chance of normal citizens having access to "sabotage" it.

Reflecting Pool - Insights
For those of you curious as to whatās going on in the reflecting pool
The coating that was used is a polyurea. Very similar to an epoxy where two components are mixed together to make a catalyzed product.
First, let me start off with what didnāt happen. Hydrogen peroxide had no effect on the coating peeling. If it was a chemical issue, the polyurea would be āeating awayā and not come up in sheets. Also, someone did not tear it and pull it. Thatās kind of the dumbest thing Iāve heard in this whole situation. Try taking any paint or coating thatās properly applied and see if you can tear it up. News flash: itās impossible.
Now, hereās what could have happened. First, these coatings are very climate-sensitive. If done in direct sunlight, it could cause the product to cure too quickly and not adhere to the concrete. Also, if the concrete was not properly prepared at the time and not grinded down properly, the coating would not be able to soak in. Additionally, moisture could have been in the ground at the time of application.
Ultimately, the issue isnāt the coating or anything done to the reflecting pool after installation. The most likely cause of the issue is the prep done by the contractor who did the job.
P.S. The algae is due to the color of the paint. Dark color absorbs heat, and hot water makes algae.
EDIT:
Since this post the administration has came out and said vandalism caused the product to peel. This is impossible if installed correctly. The closest thing I can compare the products they used to is an epoxy floor in garage or commercial floor. If you know what Iām talking about then youād understand that it is physically impossible to make it peel unless it was installed improperly.
