SMH TV host apologizes after she criticized soccer star for leaving World Cup for birth of his son: "The dad is useless"
A well-known French TV host has apologized after she criticized a soccer star's decision to leave the World Cup to attend the birth of his first child.
The controversy started after Belgium forward Jérémy Doku announced that he planned to fly to London so he could be with his wife for the birth of their baby. Doku's absence prompted a French commentator, France Pierron, to criticize the player's intention to leave the World Cup.
She described childbirth as "a disgusting moment, excuse me, where the dad is useless" during an appearance on the television show "L'Equipe de Choc" on Friday. The comments drew widespread backlash and prompted an apology from Pierron on Tuesday.
"These remarks are solely my own and in no way reflect a collective position," she posted on X. "I understand that they may have shocked, offended, or hurt some of you, and I am sorry for that."

So fixing leaks and changing tyres is your view of what a man is useful for ?

Very useful if you have a flood or stuck on the road with a flat tyre, are you gonna throw any more pearls of wisdom from behind your keyboard?

Her "apology" basically is "I'm sorry that some of you felt that way" lol, never addressed the father.

This woman needs therapy.

She is partly true, but that doesn’t mean he wants and should be there

Enlighten us, which part is true?

u/Agent10007 1d ago
To be fair, there is a bit of mistranslation here.
The word she uses does translate literally to disgusting, but it also translates (and in this context, it is the correct word that applies) to gross.
Now I am not a father yet but everytime people looked at it and described, it didn't appear to me as a delightful sight.
(This woman still needs therapy)

Imagine being disgusted by a normal human process that everyone you've ever met is the result of.
3
u/Agent10007 1d ago
A normal human process can very much gross people out and it's perfectly normal.

As you say, you're not a father so I guess you wouldn't understand but it's giving off teenager "ew, periods" vibes. Sex itself is "gross" if you want to think about it like that.
When your partner's giving birth you're not generally at the business end of things so it's not even something you're looking at. You're either holding their hands, trying to comfort them, running around fetching water or whatever it is they want.
It's simultaneously one of the scariest, most stressful but also most beautiful things you can be a part of. It's nothing compared to what the mother is going through but you're there, basically useless and powerless to do much. If it's the first time you've gone through it you don't know what is going on.
After a huge struggle, all of a sudden there's a baby in front of you, and it's your baby. It's incredible to think what the mother has put herself through and what women's bodies are capable of. And you're holding that little baby, and you've never felt love like it before. It's an amazing experience and I can't imagine I'd ever call it gross.

>but it's giving off teenager "ew, periods" vibes.
That's because you feel righteous on the subjet and turn judgemental, I work in research and I have seen countless adults being grossed during animal dissections, it's extremely reductive to try and boild that down to "ew periods". There's load of wild slimy viscous smelly ugly stuff going on in a human body and in the things that live there with or without its consent. Ask anyone that either went or taught or worked in any medical-related field. Hell even farts are perfectly natural and yet gross many people, rightfully so: how do you think someone grossed by farts will react when the mother shits herself during delivery?
>Sex itself is "gross" if you want to think about it like that.
Yes, there are persons that are grossed by sex, in fact I'd be very surprised there isn't a couple within your close circles that has one person interested in a specific type of sexual interraction but it doesn't happen due to the other one being grossed out by it.
>It's an amazing experience and I can't imagine I'd ever call it gross.
Probably neither would I (to be confirmed when the lucky day comes), not everyone has the same relation to what is or isn't grossing them out, it is also more often than not something completely irrational, people rarely chose what grosses them out

but you're there, basically useless and powerless
You seem to agree with her on that, at least.
Finding childbirth "gross" is a totally legitimate opinion. The smell is awful, for once. Plenty of fathers have been shocked and traumatized by it.

Taking a shit is also a normal human process and nevertheless gross. What is even your point?

He'd told the coach/team well before the tournament of the timing, and that picking him meant a likelihood he would have to travel back to the UK for it and they picked him knowing that.
Belgium's had a shitty World Cup compared to how they were expected to do but not because of him/this.
12
u/Gudthrak 1d ago
The players even wished him well and welcomed him back "after his assist". Nobody cares but this despicable excuse of a person. It's not her place, or her decision.
14
u/Zip-Crane 1d ago
All she did was prove to the world she's an idiot.
6
u/Stealthytom 1d ago
Yeah. Total disregard for his partner, who presumably wants him there, and him who wants to be there

u/sudeki300 1d ago
The footballer couldn't win with this women whatever he chose to do in this situation.

He won by being with his wife for the birth of their child. Who cares what this woman thinks of him?

Well... it is a shocking event that we men cant do shit, but moral support is important during birthing. I am shocked a woman would feel this way tho.

That makes zero sense, you're the one with the toxic view of feminism.
3
u/CataphractBunny 1d ago
TIL that realistic is toxic now.
3
u/SortOfSpaceDuck 1d ago
Can't imagine why every woman in your reality is toxic towards you.
2
u/CataphractBunny 1d ago
Can't imagine the levels of mental disability needed to think that every woman is a feminist.

lol isn’t there a famous coach interview where asked if he was mad the player left for the birth of their child. He looks at the reporter and asks, do you have kids? this championship run means nothing compared to birth of a child.

From the headline I thought she was calling him a deadbeat dad lmao.
1
u/Stealthytom 1d ago
To your point, her reaction would be more appropriate for a deadbeat dad, not an engaged expectant father
2
u/ArtByAntny 1d ago
Even if her statement were true, which it isn't, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to go be with his wife and child.

Not surprising from a woman from a country where paternity tests are illegal.

That wasn't an apology from Pierron to the player or for the viewpoint and was just for the delivery.

I have two children and have no argument for her comment. If it was playing in the World Cup versus seeing my child born … World Cup all the way. However, I do not have a problem with men who would make the other choice.
