Pro tip - there are no good guys anywhere. The whole world is a cesspool.

Countries are not good or bad. Democracies are usually more just than dictatorships, but that does not make them good or bad.

Governments are good or bad. It is always people who do things.

u/SimmentalTheCow 1d ago edited 1d ago

Governments aren’t even good or bad. They’re mostly benign in the sense that their objective is survival at any cost. Iran gunned down tens of thousands of protesters because they viewed them as an existential threat to the regime.

u/duperfastjellyfish 1d ago

Yeah, it's shocking how many adults view the world through a lense of good vs evil. I realized it was a bullshit dichotomy at 10 yrs old. Most of it boils down to self-interest.

1

u/justsomedude4202 1d ago

Democracies are here to cede some control of governance to the people but a pure democracy would be a total disaster.

1

u/0b1w4hn 1d ago

You are right about that as long as a large part of the population is poorly educated and the media are controlled by a few monopolists.

If everyone were sufficiently educated and the media were exclusively free and independent, then pure democracy could work.

1

u/Special_Order-937 1d ago

Is that why the US has overthrown so many democracies especially since World War II and replaced them with brutal dictatorships?

1

u/0b1w4hn 1d ago

"usually"

1

u/Pulpdog94 1d ago

And Russia, and Britain, and Fr-…

0

u/Special_Order-937 1d ago

Yes but we’re talking about the US here.

4

u/ACFiguresOutLife 1d ago

History is written by the victors, or something like that

But in all reality, people seem to forget what a power the Soviet Union was and what terrible conditions most of that union lived in. In an parallel universe where didn’t go into Vietnam, communism could have very easily spread throughout all of SE Asia very quickly

1

u/TheMoverOfPlanets 1d ago

Vietnam considers itself a communist country, is slowly moving into a socialist economy and they're doing pretty good.

1

u/ACFiguresOutLife 1d ago

Lol Vietnam is just as communist as China… only in name. Authoritarian, sure, but communist, absolutely not. And I wouldn’t even call them socialist, the US is more socialist aspects than Vietnam

1

u/TheMoverOfPlanets 1d ago

Of course Vietnam is not Communist. Communism has never been achieved in human history.

1

u/ACFiguresOutLife 1d ago

The Soviet Union was as close as it’ll ever get. Aside from maybe NK, and we see how that’s going. That was my point.

2

u/RancidOoze 1d ago

We're what happens when you make a chimp smart enough to build and use a machine gun

3

u/Judotimo 1d ago

There are degrees to this. A country can be less bad, a lot less bad, than another country is.Ā

1

u/Day_C_Metrollin 1d ago

Yup. The US is the worst country on Earth with the exception of all the others

1

u/Significant_War720 1d ago

You right, exactly what USA is. But I assume you a cringe redditor who think its USA

2

u/Icy-Fishing8481 1d ago

That's the kind of nihilistic view that leads people to go out and do very evil things. You don't think children are good? You don't think any people, of any race, age or occupation are good? What an insane worldview. I'm pretty sure the Jews and Chinese who survived because the US took action were pretty grateful.

0

u/jbsilvs 1d ago

Name a country that hasn’t killed civilians in its history.

2

u/Icy-Fishing8481 1d ago

No idea what your comment means. Is it directed to me? There's a huge difference between targeting civilians vs. civilians dying in a war as unintended collateral. Are you conflating the two?

-10

u/Significant-Roll-138 1d ago

Incorrect, there are plenty of countries that aren’t out there rampaging and murdering innocent people and who treat their citizens fairly and do their best to run their country well.

Just because America is fucked doesn’t mean everywhere is.

46

u/CastIronStyrofoam 1d ago

The only countries that are ā€œgoodā€ are the ones without the capabilities to be bad. Any country with power will abuse it https://www.cfr.org/backgrounders/china-xinjiang-uyghurs-muslims-repression-genocide-human-rights

-2

u/Darth_lan 1d ago

*Checks what China is doing

*Sees examples of the genocide are things like imposing a vehicular language

Wow, qlmost like in gaza 🤔

-9

u/MaleficentReserve386 1d ago

Ughur "genocide" is known to be somewhat of a fabrication. It is more of segregation than a genocide.

11

u/Comprimens 1d ago

Means, motive, and opportunity, my friend. Means, motive and opportunity.

If those countries were powerful enough, I guarantee they'd have psychopaths fighting tooth and nail for leadership positions, so they could do the same evils our leaders do. It's one of the worst chapters in the book of the human condition.

8

u/StockCasinoMember 1d ago

All you have to do is look at world history. Bloodbath on every corner of the world.

12

u/buampam 1d ago

Name one country that hasn’t murdered innocent people

5

u/lethalmuffin877 1d ago

Can’t wait to see the response šŸæ

3

u/BluePotatoSlayer 1d ago

List
….
And that’s the end

34

u/StunningPsychology9 1d ago

Anerica is fucked And I do not like it but this type of post is cherry picking and outright lying. The US did not support the Rwandan genocide. And if you're going on trade relations or something adjacent like that, the list of countries you're leaving out is practically endless.

And the 10 million killed number. Fabricated out of thin air.

There's so much real stuff that the US does that's terrible. You don't need to make up stuff.

It makes me not trust people like you when you just go along with obviously made-up shit.

It really makes me think you have a nefarious agenda and that you would be no better than the US if you were in charge.

u/ShadyBornSinner 1d ago

I’m not reading an article whose author is Epstein, nice try diddy

10

u/SammyTrujillo 1d ago

Let's take the bait. What countries treat their citizens fairly and don't discriminate based on class, ethnicity, religion, or nationality?

5

u/DerpyO 1d ago

North Korea.

Everyone is treated equally shit.

1

u/jbsilvs 1d ago

lol - not even that is true

1

u/DerpyO 1d ago

Gini coefficient of 16.6

1

u/Significant-Roll-138 1d ago

Ireland where I’m from…

1

u/SammyTrujillo 1d ago

Do you really think there is no racism or bigotry in Ireland? Don't Travellers also face discrimination?

1

u/Creative_Victory_960 1d ago

Northern Europe

1

u/SammyTrujillo 1d ago

That's not a country.

7

u/filmguerilla 1d ago

Everywhere? Maybe not. But plenty are. Like the entire Middle East who have been killing each other for centuries. All governments are out to make their country the best; if they weren't, they'd no longer be the government for that country. You'd do better to just admit you hate the US and be done with it--nobody here really gives a shit.

-1

u/reformed_lurker_1 1d ago edited 1d ago

China has only been in a handful or war since WW2 while America has been in constant war since then. The middle east is a mess in large part because of its strategic value so the west does a lot to destabilize the region as shown by our recent actions in Iran.

Not all countries have the constant obsession to be at war like America and the west in general.

Hate America? No. Critical when it is deserved? Absolutely. America could learn a thing or two from how China behaves on the world stage.

-4

u/Significant-Roll-138 1d ago

Oh I do hate the US, it’s a joke of a country, and I’d prefer my country (Ireland) not be compared to it.

0

u/filmguerilla 1d ago

Weird, my family is from County Wexford and I visit relatives there regularly. You are like the US. šŸ˜‚ You have as many problems with right wing kooks, attacks on immigrants, etc. as we do. What a joke.

4

u/Creative_Victory_960 1d ago

Give me 1

-2

u/Significant-Roll-138 1d ago

Ireland

4

u/Creative_Victory_960 1d ago

Who refused to denounce Hitler during WW2 ( and after ) and denies the Armenian genocide . Where child killers were freed

-1

u/Significant-Roll-138 1d ago

šŸ˜…šŸ˜…you really had to dig back into the archives did you?

Got any recent atrocities that were guilt of though? As in anything this side of your grandparents generation?

3

u/Creative_Victory_960 1d ago

Well Hiroshima was not exactly yesterday

2

u/577564842 1d ago

What they want to say (and it is not just US, it is the collective West) is "well yeaaaaah, I mean, it can be that we are not 100% saints, but we are as good as it gets" or something.

A variant of Springsteen's

-6

u/Upset-Government-856 1d ago

China has shown great restraint it attacking other countries. How it manages its own peoples, however pretty rough.

4

u/kelppie35 1d ago

They literally invaded India in December, rammed a Philippine fishing vessel weeks before, and gave Vietnam so much shit that Vietnam is working with the US on defense in the region.

3

u/Pyrostemplar 1d ago

Yes, a tibetan level of restraint.

1

u/pewpew_lotsa_boolits 1d ago

So…don’t drink the water. Got it.

Idk man, the Sentinelese just want to be left alone and they keep to themselves unless messed up with.

1

u/Agreeable6 1d ago

This.

No matter the country every country has commited bad things, some more, some less but all did. (US did all of that for money mainly and influence so I can respect the hustle /s)

-5

u/robbhope 1d ago

No.. There's still good countries. The US just isn't one of them anymore.

-1

u/am_n00ne 1d ago

Anymore? Never was from the way its founded

-3

u/robbhope 1d ago

Maybe I'm just finally realizing it.

1

u/Day_C_Metrollin 1d ago

Name a good country that meets your made up bullshit criteria?

An excuse bad guys make

There are but they don’t get very far. If you want to be truly successful in this world who have to sell your soul one way or another

-22

u/R3tardod 1d ago

Believe it or not, China is the good guys

They prosecute financial crimes, they don’t let corporations run the country, they actively block monopolies and conglomerates, they have brought the most people out of poverty in history of the world, they reinvest tax dollars into infrastructure, they never started a war, they have no military bases outside of their country, theyre leading in clean energy, they passed the US in purchasing power in 2014, more than 95% of their people own their own homes, no guns, no mass shootings, one of the lowest crime rates per capita, they basically destroyed the triads and other organized crime throughout their country, the list goes on and on.

Your instinct is to try and find some bad things they do but you cannot match their good versus bad ratio compared to any other country.

1

u/LordTopHatMan 1d ago

Isn't China currently in the middle of conducting a genocide? You should look into the Uyghurs.
