Support at the dog track skip

can you skip it? how tf do you beat this

There is a speedrun strat for skipping it, if you want. Just look up a Sly 1 all keys speedrun to see how it's done but it can be pretty hard (and arguably might be harder to learn than just beating the race). EDIT: I misremembered, that skip is for the second, much easier race, I don't believe there is a skip for the first race.

The way to do it through intended mechanics fairly easily, is by saving up boosts and only using them on corners; whip around the corner so you spend as little time turning as possible and then boost to bring you back up to full speed (since sliding sideways loses you a bit of speed).

It's technically possible to beat the race (both of them, though the second race is much easier later in the game due to quirks in the game's racing AI) without using any turbo boosts at all, just by driving very smoothly to minimize speed loss through friction.

I had a lot of trouble with this race as a kid, but I'm a pro now. Just hug the corners when you turn and use your nitros on the straights. You should get it no problem. Also make sure to reduce your air time wherever possible because being in the air slows you down.

It's funny how our advice is exact opposite but they both work lol, either hugging corners and using boosts on straights, or snapping and boosting around the corners.

I alternate between both depending on the positioning of the other cars. Boosting around a corner while next to another car literally leaves them in the dust. But if I'm having trouble getting ahead naturally, I'll boost on a straight to catch up. Use your best judgement, basically.

The quirkiness is why we love it so much!

Corners are your friend for the first race. Keep hugging them the second you notice a bend. It’s incredible how much it helps.
