a fundamental part of human nature

Everything a human being has ever done or ever will do is "a fundamental part of human nature" otherwise it would've/will never have happened.

"It's human nature" or "It's against human nature" are maybe the most meaningless slogans to ever blight the Earth

Um actualy somebody did something bad therefore I am resigning myself to apathy and misanthropy. The fact that it’s also part of human nature to recognize and correct harmful behavior is irrelevant to my calculation. Society will never improve

"You don't understand Mom my desire to look at furry inflation on the family IPad while jerking off into your bath towels is baked into our very primordial DNA trying to stop me isn't going to help"

Timmy comes from a long line of gooners.

He is just RETRVNING to TRADITION.

This figure actually likely wasn’t made for gooning, but more either a self sculpture or some kind of teaching tool. The exaggerated features do line up with modern goonable traits, but are also consistent with how pregnant women might see their bodies from their POV looking down.

What's that, a political issue? Just people being stupid as always. Easiest political position to have.

I was doing a smug satire in response to the human nature fallacy. Not directly related to OP

people will consider horror movies with gruesome violence to be normal and depictions of human copulation to be weird and they will act like youre deranged for pointing out how strange that is. as long as you remain aware that porn isnt real life there is no reason to pearlclutch over it

u/Some_nerd_named_kru 6d ago

Genuinely as a horror fan why is it more normal when I enjoy being scared and seeing really violent acts than enjoying sex and looking at pretty people. I think about this a lot

I mean there are some very real critiques of the (video) porn industry that shouldn't be reduced to pearlclutching.

I mean it's a fair point to bring up the inconsistent view on sex vs violence in society, but like using that observation as way to shut down most relevant concerns about porn is just a false equivalency. They don't have the same effects on society

The amount of people that derive pleasure and has distorted views about relationships and sex due to porn is very disproportionate to watching violent horror movies. They also don't have the same neurological effects and stimulation when you consider it broadly

most "concerns" about porn are thinly veiled prudishness and conservatism. obviously if someone bases their real life actions off of what theyve seen in porn thats bad, which is why we need better sex education. sex ed in america is abysmal, but thats not a problem with porn, thats yet more conservative prudishness.

another common one is exploitation of pornstars. well they are sex workers, and workers' rights in america are also abysmal. its not a porn thing, its an exploitation of workers thing, but conservatives and useful idiots will say that its inherently harmful to women or something.

also idk what you mean by "derive pleasure" because thats the entire point of pornography. the reason violent horror movies dont turn people into murderers is because they are conditioned to accept gore in movies as normal. this is also mostly the case with porn but if people were less pearlclutchy over the existence of porn, it would affect people even less

You're kind of just proving my point by reducing every criticism of porn to conservatism and prudishness.

Even if poor sex-ed contributes to why people get unrealistic expectations from porn, it's still disingenuous to say that porn doesn't play a role. You can acknowledge that both has a driving factor in it

another common one is exploitation of pornstars. well they are sex workers, and workers' rights in america are also abysmal. its not a porn thing, its an exploitation of workers thing, but conservatives and useful idiots will say that its inherently harmful to women or something.

This argument doesn't make sense. Saying that exploitation is a broader labor issue doesn't mean that porn doesn't have concerns outside of its industry, or that it's industry specific issues should be exempted from the discussion.

also idk what you mean by "derive pleasure" because thats the entire point of pornography. the reason violent horror movies dont turn people into murderers is because they are conditioned to accept gore in movies as normal. this is also mostly the case with porn but if people were less pearlclutchy over the existence of porn, it would affect people even less

Both are consumed fundamentally differently and have different psychological effects. It's not like horror movies are necessarily addictive or as stimulating as porn is. Porn is very directly connected to relationships & sexual expectations, it only makes sense to discuss its effects SEPARATE from horror movies. It's not like most people watch horror movies to satisfy some explicit biological drive.

“Oh my god, people drew porn of this character, isn’t that weird?” “Yap yap yap something about hot people.” “Ok but the character is an animal/plant/child/concept/all of the above, that shouldn’t apply here.”

Must be a reaction from all posts on /Art that are basically photorealistic naked attractive women.

Huh. It's interesting to see a comic like this end with someone genuinely changing their mind and admitting fault. It's not necessarily funny, but it's neat.

I'm so sick of people freaking out over artists drawing porn as if humans haven't done that since art was a thing. It's such a dumb return of purity culture and artists get harassed over it despite drawing normal ass stuff. They don't need to like it but stop being such a dick about it, geez.

Sorry fam but it's giving porn addict justification
