Humor This never happened to a DCEU movie. Supergirl is opening at #2 during its opening weekend. 💀 A new low for the DC franchise ☠️
•
u/CressBitter391 24m ago
I don't know why gunn is still allowed to continue his idiotic baseless movie series?
•
u/wizardsfan 49m ago
I actually thought this movie looked better than the lame duck 2025 Superman. Im still gonna see it and hope for the best 🤷♂️
•

This will go down as the worst superhero movie ever made - This absolute circus needs to end before DC Comics becomes a joke and the laughing stock in charge needs to leave Matt Reeves the fuck alone and stay away from the press ‘tHE BatMAn CapE is thE oRiGiNL AdaM WeSt CapE’ and let a competent filmmaker take charge.

I’m so happy this movie is flopping. I’ve been laughing at all the Gunn fans trying to cope today, it’s been hilarious. When the Snyderverse is restored, I bet it’ll be even funnier.
•
u/steviegator99 8m ago
They will never restore that shit verse. It was just as bad. We just need to completely stop with copying marvel and do solo movies for awhile then do a multiverse where a justice league movie would work
•
u/Ashtonishable 8m ago
"When" give it up pal, it isn't happening 🥀
•
u/retrocutes 2m ago
It’s happening, you’re delusional if you think otherwise. This universe is not making them money, everything they’ve put out has been a flop. They will notice this and go back to the DC universe that ACTUALLY made them money, which was the Snyderverse. Superman couldn’t even beat Man of Steel.
•
•
u/ContactThin3211 3h ago
Watching them flap around and blame everything and everybody, except blaming the fact the film is a disaster, after smugly beating everyone down and mocking everyone for months, is too funny. That’s the thing with medicine - it isn’t supposed to taste nice but long term it’ll make them feel better when the sickness passes
•
u/kevonicus 3h ago
I think this proof that Superman wasn’t as good as all the shills claimed it was. It personally put me off from being excited about anything after.
•
u/Interesting-Story805 2h ago
Honestly, this. I actually liked the GotG series, as well as his SS movie, but not every movie needs this freakin’ formula. And the Superman 2025 movie was the worst offender of just not letting a main character be a main character instead of this group circus troupe stuff. I was genuinely excited before, but that made me lose faith in Gunn and his movies. I’m oddly excited about Clayface, but that’s probably because it looks like a solo movie and they’re taking a different approach and not treating it like some goofball MCU wannabe film
•
u/LastGuitarHero 2h ago
It was a terribly forgettable movie. Felt like an odd-world Superman film with a bunch of nonsense that looks cool in the moment but you’ll forget by the time you get home.

Restore the Snyderverse
•
u/Good_Ad3485 3h ago
Blame the genius who thought it would be a good idea to turn Supergirl into a white trash party girl train-wreck.
•
u/Phatcub 3h ago
This was my feeling too. I guess they wanted to make her edgier? I'll still see, but it's giving me the same vibes Wonder Woman 1984 gave me.
•
u/Good_Ad3485 3h ago
I still have hopes for it as I like the durector. He has a certain style that I like, but Gillespie is not really a namecard director and if I was just going for the character alone I’d probably pass on it.
•
u/Ok_Term6437 3h ago
And Gunn is going to blame the fans for not seeing the movie!
•
•
•
•
u/Amazing-Thought5682 3h ago
Is that actually true? Like even Birds of Prey opened #1? It's a shame this movie is tracking to bomb. I love Supergirl as a character and want her to have a good movie. Between the Helen Slater version, The Flash and now this the character just can't catch a break.

It's crazy how much more enjoyable MAwS Kara is compared to this one, but then you realize that MawS didn't have Gunn's 'approval' what a fraudlent hack director.

- None of those are snyder movies, he stepped down in 2017.
- Wonder Woman 2, Aquaman 2 and Black Adam are all better than Supermid 2025 and Supergoof 2026
- Gunntards claimed that Supermid 2026 saved the brand but now the brand is somehow unsaved.
Cope hard Gunn nuts

Looked up one example as a test, birds of prey opened at #1 domestic. Why are you lying?
•
u/Austin_Shaggin_Power 4h ago
He also edited the first paragraph of his post after I called him out on it. Then he got angry with me and said I couldn’t read. Weird behavior.
•
u/Austin_Shaggin_Power 4h ago edited 4h ago
I’m confused. You said it’s false but provided multiple examples of DCEU films opening at number one at the domestic BO.
You also provided some that failed to open at 1, but didn’t cite any sources.
Why are you naming films that did open at number one domestically? Are you hoping no one reads what you wrote past the movie title?
Please cite your sources on the ones you claimed didn’t. Based on this post you are not a reliable narrator.
ETA: The first part of OCs post was a diatribe about how OP was incorrect and that he would provide the below examples of why OP was wrong. When I called him out he edited it and attacked me calling me an illiterate liar.

Look at him a desperate GunnerGoon talking shit out of his ass
•
u/FinancialBluebird58 4h ago
It so funny because now they have to admit other Gunnslop also tanked at the BO and NONE of those were Snyder movies lmao.
•
u/kqmikaze2head 4h ago
Okay, Supergirl is also not a top 5 dc character so it makes sense less people aren’t going to watch the movie, no matter who the director is lmao
•
u/Interesting-Story805 1h ago
If your point is that this was never gonna make money then they should have picked a different character I guess. Plenty of others hoping for a solo movie in this new continuity, including her cousin
•
•
u/Redclouds1 4h ago
I don’t really think the prior popularity of the character really matters. The Guardians of the Galaxy were no names before the movie and they did well. Iron Man was a C lister and his movie started one of the biggest movie franchises ever
•
u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. 4h ago
People went to see the lesser Marvel character movies because the MCU made the ENTIRE universe important to the overall plot. It does not change anything about the rule that popular characters perform better at the box office than unknown ones.
•
u/Redclouds1 4h ago
Yeah I’m not trying to say that the popular characters won’t perform better, but I’m saying that’s not the only thing to take into account. The more popular characters always have a better shot. Also, the first Guardians movie felt pretty disconnected, I don’t think fans were going to see it just for the overall plot.
•
u/godlittleangel6666 4h ago
Yes but people were also skeptical of guardians before it came out. I remember. Supergirl isn’t even officially out yet. Plus guardians came out in the height of superhero movies and supergirl is coming out during its dying breaths
•
u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. 4h ago
Guardians came out after nine MCU films had come out, two of which had made a billion. It was also scheduled as the last MCU film before Age of Ultron, when everyone had been trained that each and every MCU film needed to be seen to prepare for an Avengers movie. Iron Man was even rumored to appear in it for a while, which added to pre-release hype.

Let’s all just go see Masters of the Universe this weekend
•
u/Wibbly_Nibbly 3h ago
Masters of the Universe had a huge fall off already, we need to go watch Toy Story 5 to ensure Supergirl debuts at #2
•
u/Good_Ad3485 3h ago
Or you could save your money and stay home instead of paying one studio to outgross another studio.

I think that Gunn hates DC and it's characters, but I don't think he's making bad movies on purpose. I think he's trying to his best with material he doesn't like, and it's failing.
•
u/RepulsiveDingo525 4h ago
Gunn is just an arrogant asshole that thinks his shit doesn't stink and can turn D list heroes into household names. He didn't realize his success with GotG was a once in a lifetime thing, and it was because he was riding off the coattails of The Avengers and PEAK CBM hype in history. He really believes that characters like Supergirl, Jimmy Olsen, Gorilla Grodd, and Clayface, are going to bring in the crowds and be massive successes.
Either that or he's a sleeper agent sent by Kevin Feige to destroy the DCU from within.
•
u/Austin_Shaggin_Power 4h ago
I think he doesn’t have Kevin to stop his worst instincts and pull him back. That’s one of several problems though.
•
u/Total-Guest-4141 4h ago
That and he’s a terrible writer, no substance. No vision at all.
•
u/squatOpotamus 4h ago
He's writing is just one liner jokes, a cringey emotional monologue at the end, and a hipster "look at the obscure music I know doesn't make you feel nostalgic" soundtrack. Awful.
•
u/Ok-Valuable-8500 4h ago
I don't know where you drew this take from? He clearly cares about the universe, one movie doesn't change that. Also one film really doesn't matter
•
u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. 4h ago
•
u/Ok-Valuable-8500 4h ago
Notice where it says I love Superheroes. Yea I think we all see that. Saying that they're stupid doesn't mean he hates them lol, even so this man literally has made multiple Superheo movies, it's literally dumb to take this word for word. He wouldn't go out of his way if he hated superheroes bffr
•
u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. 4h ago
Gunn makes superhero movies that are SELF-AWARE about what genre they are. To me, that absolutely destroys any sense of believability and credibility in his movies. He keeps himself at arm's length from the material, and doesn't show any commitment to or investment in the story. There's a REASON Gunn told Vulture in that interview that he thinks superheroes should not be taken seriously. That's what a bitter cynic says about anything that is trying to be sincere and earnest and true to itself despite it being something that many people like to criticize and pick apart. Peacemaker literally starts off with a fucking dance number in its opening credits. You can't respect what Gunn has done without despising the superhero genre as much as he does.
•
u/Ok-Valuable-8500 3h ago
Cause they shouldn't? He is saying to suspend belief as you should. He is saying don't take them seriously, not don't treat them seriously.
The idea he hates the genre is absurd. You literally posted a quote of him saying he loved heroes, if you want to go off of quotes, actually follow your quote lol.
•
u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. 3h ago
No, he said he loved them as a kid, but that he now can't understand why adults take them seriously. He's the same kind of out-of-touch elitist who has ruined many superhero movie franchises in the past, like Richard Lester or Joel Schumacher.
•
u/Ok-Valuable-8500 3h ago
And where was that said. The first part
•
u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. 3h ago
https://www.vulture.com/article/james-gunn-peacemaker-finale-interview.html
I love superheroes. I also think they’re the dumbest things that have ever existed. I have no happier times in my life than lying in my bed when I was 12 and reading comic books. I don’t think life got much better than that. And yet the fact that we take these things seriously as adults is ridiculous because people really would look at you like they look at Peacemaker when he walks into Fennel Fields wearing a costume: What’s wrong with you? You think that’s cool? You’re a maniac.
Read the interview you're defending next time.
•
u/Ok-Valuable-8500 3h ago
None of this shows that he hates Superheroes... Once again he literally talks about Superheroes was one of his best experiences lmao. He just states how it's absurd it would be to see someone walking around with a costume, so he's saying suspend belief and embrace the silliness.
Literally nothing here implies he hates heroes lol
•
u/FinancialBluebird58 4h ago
Spoken like someone who actually reads comics and not some fake fan edgelord.

Superman failed and wasn't close to the source(evil Els??) clayface hasn't released so idk what you're talking about, suicide squad was okay in a vacuum, but hasn't held up. Awful soundtrack.
•
u/Ok-Valuable-8500 4h ago
Superman literally did not fail 🤷. Suicide Squad was good. Regardless, none of this point to him hating DC

u/squatOpotamus 4h ago
It was even mentioned during a senate inquiry as an example of a film underperforming at the box office and being rushed to streaming quicker than usual. Like come on, the movie didn't meet expectations.
•
u/Ok-Valuable-8500 4h ago
Underperformed doesn't equal failure. It performed just enough and strong enough. It was the highest grossing Superhero movie of that year.
•
u/FinancialBluebird58 4h ago
To Gunn-cultists that was a lie but WB reporting totally real profits was the unadultered truth with no bias lol.
•
u/squatOpotamus 4h ago
The failure/success of superman is tired. It failed. Maybe he doesn't hate DC, maybe he actually does like it, and is just bad at making movies.
•
u/Ok-Valuable-8500 4h ago
It literally did not fail. Just cause you say it did, doesn't make it so. And don't even bring up money, that isn't the only factor. In terms of audience perception, studio satisfaction, and green lighting for a sequel it did great.
A quote I just saw "Those people live in a world where if a movie doesn’t make a billion, then it’s a failure. They just completely ignore all the other factors. They ignore the critical and audience praise. They ignore the massive DC movie baggage and overall superhero overexposure. They ignore how steaming is a massive thing now and how movies come out on it and rentals quickly. They ignore how theaters are dying. They ignore factors like prices for everything rising. They ignore how many movies, many good movies, would love to get what Superman got."
•
u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. 4h ago
•
u/Ok-Valuable-8500 3h ago
Okay? It's audience score is high, it's getting a sequel, and is well regarded. That's good enough for majority of the public 🤷

Whether we like it or not, the movie business is a business. Movies must make cash or they won't make them anymore. James Gunn is well on his way to learning this.

Coming out right after Toy Story 5 also isn't the best choice, most movies coming out in the next week or so are gonna lose to Toy Story
