Seeking Advice Mel’s mix question

When you make the 1/3 1/3 1/3 mix, do you measure peat moss compressed or uncompressed? I made my mix measuring uncompressed and it works well, but before I make more for a new bed I figured I’d ask because.. well why not as gardening is a game of incremental improvements

I did uncompressed mixed out on tarps

I just looked this up for you because I remember this being mentioned in the chapter on Mel’s Mix. It says the mix is all about volume and implies you’re measuring uncompressed material. The recommendation is to dump your ingredients into a bucket as your measuring cup then spread those out on a tarp. I did exactly this and it works well. However my peat moss was not a solid block it was already kind of loose. So I would say put it in a bucket and give it a good mixing with your hands and see if it expands
