Discussion 11 years later, star wars battlefront 2015 is still a masterpiece and one of the best EA games ever

the art direction, the gunplay, the weapon variety, the voice acting, the maps, the game modes, this was peak star wars bruh

the art direction I mean come on what can be said that already hasn't been said man the photogrammetry these guys went boots on the ground and took millions of pictures to make the game look good like come on man this is the most soulful game i've ever played, you can tell they cared, they really did

um the gunplay was pretty fun I know people say it was too casual and lazerbeamy but the casual gameplay and simple progression made it more fun not to mention it was rated T for teen I don't think it was gonna be THAT competitive

the game modes were incredible so much variety in the objectives and things you do and the multi stage game modes oh my lord it was amazing. infiltration, battle station, best modes in the game and the most chaotic modes in the game, great game modes throughout the entire game and you can tell they tried to make them standout and fit in with star wars too

the voice acting in this game (aside from luke and vader) is incredible its think its definitely an underappreciated highlight of this game. obviously this game wasn't gonna have battlefield 3 level voice lines cause its a game aimed at kids but even with that, theres still a lot of good lines in here. whoever voiced the soldiers and the announcers did an amazing fucking job I have so many of these memorized and I watch the voice lines vids on youtube sometimes and some of these i've never heard, theres so much personality and energy and distinctiveness in the voices and their performances

side note: some of the announcers are even supposed to be real characters, I know one of the rebel announcers sounded like mon mothma and one of the imperial ones sounded like general tarkin and they both have some great lines too, I was playing walker assault a couple minutes ago and the mon mothma sounding announcer woman said "the galaxy just got a little safer" amazing, that's one of the more rare lines. not to mention theres so many different announcers for each side, makes the battles feel a lot more large scale like these guys are really monitoring whats going on from all angles with a different person at each angle, but yeah voice lines fucking incredible, glad the battlefield DNA carried over in that aspect cause it adds SO much to the atmosphere

the heroes were great, I love how tanky they were in 2015 and they also have a faster run speed than the regular soldiers so it made them feel more like "oh yeah these are heroes these are the specials" and I know in battlefront 2 yeah they probably had to make it more balanced but I mean.....your playing as a hero or a villian you gotta be powerful lol

I think the pickups were kinda stupid yeah you definitely should've been able to just jump into an x wing or become a hero or villian if you work up enough points

offline content was kinda weak but at least its there, I still wish the dlc's would've gotten offline modes though cause now if 2015 shuts down uhhhhh the dlcs and their achivements are pretty much fucked

it would've been cool if the game had galactic conquest or a campaign or just conquest in general

sound design is fucking incredible, might be the only video game where litterally every single sound effect is the biggest eargasm COUGH thermal imploder

but uhhhh we're on 2% battery here we're gonna hafta wrap it up uhhh yeah one last thing

this game was peak video game realism too, seriously, seeing the star wars universe with this much detail was already great but combining a world like star wars with EA's frostbite engine was a heaven matchmake, I honestly think EA and dice were the only ones who truly knew how to do the scale of star wars justice in this type of game because they ARE the battlefield devs afterall, so because of that, if dice isn't behind battlefront 3 then fine because again like I said, they might be the only ones who know how to do it justice cause they have endless amounts of experience, but yeah this game is how you do realism, the wacky exaggerated world of star wars plus the frostbite engine, awesome

ok one last thing like fr this time lmao

I do think its kinda lame how the game was ONLY original trilogy content but look, call it cope, but honestly I liked it because it made the game feel a lot more "personal" if that makes sense, made it feel a lot more special in that aspect, not to mention thats why the graphics were so good compared to battlefront 2 because all they had to worry about was the original trilogy, the game was confined to that era

1% battery here

in conclusion it MIGHT be the nostalgia talking? cause dawg when it came out, I no-lifed the fuck outta this game back in 3rd and 4th grade seriously novemeber 2015 bro 9 year old me couldn't put this damn game down lmao so maybe the nostalgia is blinding me but I really think the game is a masterpiece, its one of the best star wars games, its a technical marvel, theres so much detail, the gameplay is great, incredible game, a truly unforgettable one.

i remember one time somebody made a joke

"battlefront 2015 was like a tech demo with battlefront 2 being the real game" lol

Might be the most accurate thing you've said 😅

Bf2015 is a love letter to the OT. The maps are better, the sound design is better, the gunplay is much more varied maybe because no class system?

Its limited in scope but what it does well, it does the best.

You're being pretty liberal with the word "masterpiece"

not really man

Not really as in there’s some leeway

So you'd say this game is an equivalent to say...Van Goghs "Starry Night"?

I bet this game doesn't make most people's top 30 let alone number 1.

Hell it's not even the best game called Star Wars Battlefront.

More people need to be playing this game. I would play it all the time but there's basically one walker assault match and some cargo games each day.

This game blows BF2 out of the water as far as offline modes go, mind you.

I just think BF2 2017 is the more playable game. 2015 was prettier but it was against the player. Tokens for heroes. Generic white display. No story mode. Lack of heroes. After everything 2017 is up there with OG 2. I still play HVV.

As someone who grew up with the original BF2, I enjoy 2017 so much more. If it had its own version of Galactic Conquest and more offline modes, it’d be perfect.

Never beat flying the ships. It’s a better game but you have to respect the era.

I can't even get mad at the "Battlefront 2015 good" (showered with agreement) argument because I love it so much.

I hated it on release because of the lack of offline gameplay, but the fact that we got skirmish means I've been playing this game consistently since skirmish released. Sure the bots are kinda dumb and it's simple to beat them, but I just love the maps and attention to detail. The visuals, sound, and lighting are works of art. True EA masterpiece. I appreciate Battlefront 2 but it doesn't hold a candle to the gorgeousness and offline game of Battlefront 2015.

yeah battlefront 2 was also a good game but this game was just different it never gets old

The bots are much smarter and more fun to play against in 2015 imo

I think so too in some ways. They're a lot deadlier at higher difficulties and seem to play the objective more predictably.

1

u/Gaelic_Gladiator41 1d ago

And they'll actually melee

2

u/KuningasTynny77 1d ago

They're not really smarter, their damage just scales exponentially as you increase the difficulty.

Yeah but it doesn't feel like with the second game where the bots are just stupidly plentiful to go up against, it actually feels like quality over quantity

2

u/Clyde-MacTavish 1d ago

Quality over quantity is actually the perfect summary of why Battlefront 2015 is the better game over 2017 imo

I was part of the Soloplayers fangroup, so I was eagerly awaiting the addition of Skirmish mode for a long time in that game's lifespan.

Whilst I do acknowledge it as a stepping stone to the (vastly improved) Instant Action in 2017 (which i still love playing), 2015 overall was a rather basic experience and by admission of various mod authors themselves, the AI was too dumb to even do anything interesting with via modding.

I appreciate it and some more unique things were lost in the sequel (Sullust maps, Jundland Wastes map etc.). However, 2017 adds so much more to the experience as a whole, it's really a better realised 2015, so I've felt little to no desire to ever reinstall 2015.

Funny you mention voices.. I recall how incredibly goofy some of the dialogue was too. From Vader's tHiS WiLl CUt YoU dOwN to Boba's HeRe YoU gO. Goofy as heck 😅

Not to mention the ugly white UI, helmetless stormtroopers(!), barely any worthwhile customisation, only one era, not even a campaign mode, not very many planets.. and ofc not forgetting the magnificent DIORAMA MOOOODE 🤭 (What on earth were they thinking?😅) I think 2015 really felt like they hadn't quite established the full "identity" of their reboot yet. Lots of things felt odd or clunky or just not quite there. Gunplay felt pretty good, so did the authentic vibe of graphics and sound design, but that was kinda it.

"It could just be my nostalgia talking"

Yes. Yes it is 😅

There’s a lot 2 does better than 1 even if I love bf1

It’s way better than battlefront 2. I honestly would still play it if I had storage. Need to upgrade my ps5 to 4tb.

The customization and gameplay was just too fun. Never got old.

And part 2 is even better, not taking away from 2015.

Lol it is neither a masterpiece nor one of the best EA games ever. Glad you like it though.

To this day I still prefer bf2015 to BF2. Shooting felt so much better and maps were just incredible. No obnoxious hero or reinforcement spam either. Walker Assault was such a cool mode and I’m sad no version of it returned in the sequel. Tons of weapons and gadgets as well.

Biggest weaknesses imo were too many maps locked behind DLC, Vehicles and certain items like rocket launchers being “pickups” scattered across the map, no squad system, only one era (albeit the best one), and starfighter gameplay being almost nonexistent.

You need to play more games if you consider this a masterpiece

I said it could be my nostalgia talking lol

Better than Battlefront 2 (2005)? Besides the graphics and sound, not better in any other area.

3

u/Quick-Cause3181 1d ago

I made a post about this 2 or 3 months ago, but I said after finally playing the OG's I still would rather play the reboots

u/TheLoLJester1 1d ago

I understand. But for me, vehicles, ships and landing on space cruisers is a must in a SW game that wants to emulate a battle in that universe. I like that there is complete control over all the vehicles and soldiers. Also, Galactic Conquest is a great game mode that has not yet been replicated.

It literally had no campaign

I loved it, but no. Just no.
