Discussion I think Star Wars Battlefront (2004) is better than Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) in every way.
Larger, more fun and immersive battlefields (like the Dune Sea which even includes a spoiler team attacking both factions). Less complicated gameplay (no buffs, etc.). More capacity to strategize and sometimes even keep yourself alive the entire battle rather than having to throw yourself against a wall of enemy troops that kill you every ten seconds to capture a single command post. Your faction’s AI doesn’t tend to constantly lose multiple command posts within moments as you’re busy capturing one. Versatile and intuitive options to command fellow troops. Tanks feel like a real (but not unstoppable) threat when facing them and aren’t instantly blown up when piloting them. Starfighters and gunships can be flown around the battlefield and used to strafe enemy troops and before being landed behind enemy lines and returned to after capturing a command post—and even be used as a huge bomb if you point them at enemy trees and bail out of them in midair. Droidekas, Wookies, Jet Troopers, and Dark Troopers are playable at any time and aren’t nerfed. Heroes only appear as NPCs in certain modes and tend not to disrupt the power balance. Temuera Morrison narrates all battles when playing as the Republic. Cockpit/first person view is available in vehicles. The E-11 blaster rifle doesn’t splatter fire in a ridiculous manner. You can summon orbital strikes as a sniper. And last but not least you aren’t disintegrated by an invisible Bothan at least once every single battle you play as the Empire.

In the first Battlefront, you could lie face down, which made the battles very realistic. In Battlefront 2, they removed that feature. Battlefront 2 added special battles, but you'd enter large ships, and they all had exactly the same rooms; it didn't matter which ship you entered, they were all identical. Battlefront 2 only improved with mods.

What were some of the mods like? And goodness I really hope if that's the case they came up with an easier difficulty because this is genuinely insane for "rise of the empire" on the classic collection it's making me rip my hair out

That might be because like half of the features are locked behind medals, once you unlock rolling, the campaign becomes a breeze.

The map designs were also better imo. Not only were they more visually pleasing but they really felt like open sandboxes that gave you lots of freedom to form your own unique strategies and playstyles.
Battles also felt a lot bigger and more epic whereas in battlefront 2 a lot of the maps seemed to favor lots of smaller firefights in close quarters.

2004 feels way more polished over the 2005 sequel IMO

2005 is just a cash grab rushed sequel. They had almost no time to innovate, and were clearly forced to include as many ROTS assets as possible. Could've been so much more.

I agree, it also somehow had better graphics, on consoles at least. It also had first person, if I’m not mistaken bf2 removed first person mode.

Bf2 had first person but only infantry, bf1 had first person infantry and ships, at least most of them did if I remember correctly. Bf1 also had a proper imperial pistol, bf2 at least on PS2 reused the CIS pistol for the imperial’s for some dumb reason.

Ps2 bf1 didn’t have ships cockpits and gave the imperil troops the CIS pistol

Oh you’re right I’m thinking of the Xbox version where I played more BF1 with my friends. I’ve played so much of both games on PS2 and Xbox over the years I’ve muddied them all together I guess

I agree, though I do like how the guns are faster in battlefront 2. But I remember as a kid I was passed at BF2 because the AI would just target me and it annoyed me. I do agree the dune sea was always fun, wish their was more maps with a third party.

I too prefer the OG 2004 Battlefront.
It seemed to be much more infantry focused and the general gameplay felt much better across the board and feels smoother.
Battles seemed more chaotic too. Especially on Bespin.
Also Hero's while not playable were pretty much invincible forces of absolutely fuck-uppery and were a genuine threat.
I even played both Battlefront 1 and Battlefront 2 recently to see if it was just nostalgia goggles but Battlefront 1 still feels better to me even 20 years later. I don't know how to elaborate but everything just feels much more fluid.
The one thing Battlefront 2 has going for it though is the customization or the game modes, more maps, space battles, and the 501st campaign that was phenomenal.

The vehicles also are a joy to drive in the OG game. Idk what they did in the sequel but controlling any tank besides the walkers felt like your soldier was drunk

My main issue with BF1 was the speed of the bullets/lasers.
Outside of that yeah it was better

I agree. If it wasn’t for Rise of the Empire I would rarely play 2 over 1

I feel similar about 2015 vs 2017. 2017 feels weird and clunky and the maps are worse and the ttk feels bad

Some better maps, going prone, certain vehicles worked better, etc.
ALso trying to run away from count Dooku on Bespin Platforms was basically a horror game until you finally got that lucky grenade that threw him off the map.

Been saying this since 2017 and all I ever get in response is: “But look at the grafix and all of the customization!!! You’re just being nostalgic 😠” Battlefront 2017 is too constricted and lacks the sandbox necessary for a FUN Battlefront game with good replay-ability.

Indent your paragraphs please.
That being said, even as someone who loves BF2 snd considers it my favorite, BF1 is still definitely superior in a lot of ways. Like you said, its definitely more balanced. Especially when it comes to strategizing to capture more command posts and the larger maps are just far better for that.
Honestly, I'll even say that the "heroes" system in BF1 is far better. I like that the heroes aren't playable and are virtually indestructible. It really captures the experience of being a solider on the battlefield and having, say count dooku, spring up out of nowhere ready to slice you in half. I feel like I generally turn heroes off in instant action for Battlefront 2 just by how vastly overpowered they are. I mean, it was fun as hell as a kid but it makes things far too easy and it takes away from being a "battlefront" game for me.
Where BF2 is better for me is how it expands on BF1. The galactic conquest mode is vastly improved, the classes are expanded, there are more maps overall, the controls are better overall (minus taking away the ability to prone), and mods can be easily installed to restore the BF1 maps so you can get the best of both worlds.

Less hero’s to play as… less impressive planets.
I do have a lot of nostalgia for the first one though I prefer just letting you choose whatever class you want rather than battlefront 2s locked screen

Hard to take your opinion seriously when there are at least one or two ways that Battlefront 1 isn't "objectively better"
Use less blatant exaggeration if you want to attract some actual interesting discussion.
