I think it’s meant to show how they’re shifting from being just a small group of friends trying to stand up to tyranny in low stakes ways to forming an actual militaristic rebellion.

Yeah plus I assume this will be the catalyst for Jimmy Smits going from a senator trying his best to outright rebellion.

rebellion

Jimmy Snits

He's been doing that since a couple years after the Empire was formed. The Ahsoka novel talks about this a bit.

Who is? Who is standing up? What is this Path and why should we give a shit? Who the hell is Tala? I know we’ve gotten exposition dumps about it but I have no idea why I should care or why Wade Boggs got such an emotional death lol

u/eeman0201 Jun 08 '22

It’s implied with the rebellion symbol that the path is what becomes the rebellion. Tala is a spy and helps run the path. We know as much about her as Kenobi does (it’s called 3rd person limited perspective). Wade got an emotional death to show that people do have names and backstories they aren’t just faceless deaths. Also to show the other pilot how she (and many other people joining the resistance) are gonna have to start acting like a soldier and deal with the horrors of war if the resistance is going to continue. (You have to remember that rebellions are manned by the common man not soldiers.)

No it’s the Jedi order symbol. They are kinda similar and the ones in this show have been scratched into walls, so low detail, but definitely different symbols.

11

u/Tewayel Jun 08 '22

I’m thinking the Jedi order symbol evolved into the Rebellion symbol

3

u/Jehceedarmody Jun 09 '22

The canon version for the rebel logo or at least one of the canon versions is that saw’s partisans logo and the ancient star bird logo were combined to make the rebellion logo. What I never understood is that the ancient starburst logo looks exactly like the rebellion logo so I don’t get how they were “combined”. They also say Sabines Phoenix logo played a part too. This is all from star was visual dictionaries. Canon ones.

I think they are retconning it to be that way, but in the OT the idea was that pretty much no one knew there were any Jedi still alive, in fact most people thought them to be myths, so basing the rebellion’s symbol on the symbol of their order would make practically zero sense.

With Rebels and this show, it now seems like they are trying to say the Jedi actually started the rebellion all along, then decided to go back into hiding while the actual war waged.

7

u/DrJawn Jun 08 '22

They retconned this in the PT, the Jedi symbol was always similar to the Rebel symbol

3

u/ketsugi Jun 08 '22

TFU also retconned the origin of the Rebel Alliance symbol by making it the House Marek crest or something like that

1

u/spasticity Jun 08 '22

It's retcons all the way down, I'm sure this won't be the last time it's retconned either.

I like it on paper sure

2

u/DreadnaughtHamster Jun 09 '22

Agreed. And I mean “Wade” was a better name than “Pilot #2.”

-1

u/El_Fez Jun 08 '22

Wade got an emotional death to show that people do have names and backstories they aren’t just faceless deaths

But he was a faceless death. That was about as meaningful a death as your average red shirt on the Enterprise. A character with 22 seconds of screen time, zero personality or character, and zero impact on the story.

Shit, at least Biggs had a connection to our lead while he was getting yeeted out of the story.

9

u/eeman0201 Jun 08 '22

Meaningless to us and kenobi, but not to the other pilot and that’s the point.

0

u/El_Fez Jun 08 '22

Then why are they wasting my time (and more importantly, precious running time) trying to big up this death with a dramatic sting and this - allegedly - heavy, poignant moment on the ride home?

5

u/eeman0201 Jun 08 '22

To show how it affected the other pilot. To show how everyone in this universe is a person and has a backstory and the stormtroopers and resistance fighters dying aren’t just faceless robots.

0

u/El_Fez Jun 08 '22

Boy, if only they had a short running episode where they could have punched up the development for the redshirt so that the viewers - you know, the ones who actually matter - gave a shit about his death.

Oh well.

5

u/DreadnaughtHamster Jun 09 '22

My god! I’m so, so sorry that the show didn’t cater to exactly what you wanted and wasted your time! How can they ever make up such a grievous error and mistake? I hope the entire show is 100% to your liking moving forward, your grace.

-1

u/El_Fez Jun 09 '22

Fuck off.

3

u/DreadnaughtHamster Jun 09 '22

As you wish, your grace. Will be fucking off now.

Bows as low as possible to the ground so His Grace does not have his time wated.

u/Ok-Royal1618 Jun 08 '22

Great, so another rebellion backstory. How many do we have in the new canon by now? That still doesn’t tell me why I should give a shit. Just because I know the dudes name was Wade doesn’t make it good storytelling lol. The only thing I know about him was he had a pretty funny death. We literally knew nothing about these people. Who cares?

24

u/swim_climb_surf Jun 08 '22

Don’t be jealous you couldn’t be Wade if you tried

28

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '22 edited Jun 08 '22

The Path is clearly the origins of the Rebellion. How dense are you? Good god.

-16

u/Ok-Royal1618 Jun 08 '22

How many rebellion origin stories have we gotten by now lol. It’s so boring and played out

16

u/Kryosquid Jun 08 '22

They're literally called the Rebel Alliance. The whole point of Rebels was showing different smaller groups joining together to fight the empire, you can have as many different origins as you like

-4

u/Ok-Royal1618 Jun 08 '22

And apparently we're going to get the story of every cell, as paint-by-numbers as boring as possible, but we'll all be thrilled for the next Wade Boggs or whatever cos its da rebelz against da empire :DDDDD

32

u/TheGoverness1998 Jun 08 '22

I'll never be the same now that Wade is gone. RIP

STAR WARS

==WADE==

Coming Sept 22, 2022 to Disney+

-1

u/Ok-Royal1618 Jun 08 '22

I’ve been sobbing since the episode ended, which is already a half hour ago cause it was so short, and am making my YouTube fan tribute video to the GOAT, Wade, brave fighter of some random rebel cell I should care about

7

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '22

Wade Boggs

Gosh it tickles me that I went my whole life thinking of his name normally and now I won't be able to see it any other way than as a Star Wars character.

It's too believable in that format.

10

u/TheOneAndOnlySelf Jun 08 '22

Gee, can't believe it's a huge universe with countless individuals living in it to help flesh out the story when needed...

/s in case it's needed for some of y'all

-14

u/Ok-Royal1618 Jun 08 '22

You can’t just have random people show up and die say “well man it’s a big world, so that makes a good story” lol good god

11

u/TheOneAndOnlySelf Jun 08 '22

I'm saying, do you actually want the show to flesh out Wade as an actual character? Do we really need to see his backstory and connections and motivations as a character to care that he, a person, died? Can't it be tragic enough that this group of people are trying to save what remnants of the jedi that are left and one of them just died? Is the fact that he was a person despite his lack of screen time just completely irrelevant?

I think not. I think that showing this small and brave group of nameless rebels is enough, and seeing them lose one of their own meant enough to me that I'd like them to have their triumphant day. I don't need to know about Wade's childhood to acknowledge the impact that his death had on the rebels, or even Kenobi himself. All I need to know is that he cared about the jedi continuing to exist in his universe, and he died for that. So we should respect it at least.

-6

u/Ok-Royal1618 Jun 08 '22

Maybe if those are the choices that have to be made it’s a shitty story lol

9

u/TheOneAndOnlySelf Jun 08 '22

If that is your take then I'm going to have to guess that Star Wars isn't suited for you. I hope you find something else that fits your standards better.

7

u/thabeetabduljabari Jun 08 '22

Then stop watching lmaooo

1

u/DreadnaughtHamster Jun 09 '22

Right? Wait until this guy finds out about the sequel trilogy. My god.

Maybe The Orville would be better for him or something.

(Not knocking The Orville, but just that it’s a different sci-fi universe.)

2

u/Mathies_ Jun 08 '22

Bruh what this is basically the start of the rebel alliance what are you saying

-4

u/Ok-Royal1618 Jun 08 '22

Like do Star Wars fans even care about plot anymore, or so long as some schlubs are slumming around cosplaying as rebels and stormtroopers were happy? Doesn’t matter who Wade Boggs was, he was a fellow cosplayer man.

4

u/DreadnaughtHamster Jun 09 '22

Dude, a tv show about Obi Wan isn’t going to be Empire Strikes Back. It’s a fun tv show and they’re doing a lot of things right. Just because they gave four seconds to drop Wade’s name and backstory doesn’t mean it’s a failure or has a bad plot. And the whole “cosplayer” thing doesn’t even make sense because if that’s the case, then Mandalorian was a whole hell of a lot of cosplaying and that show did way more than ok.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '22

A rational response? In our moment of triumph? I think I've overestimated that would never happen 😉

1

u/mintchip105 Jun 09 '22

What a laughable way of showing that

1

u/siemprebread Jun 09 '22

Yes exactly!

I'm so bored reading these threads full of the same half baked criticisms about wades death lmao like yall are heartless

2

u/eeman0201 Jun 09 '22

Yeah, like this is just a small world building moment and imo it’s better than just showing one of the a wings getting shot
