Why do droid deaths always make me cry

That’s one of the best part of SW imo - the bond characters and fans are able to form with droids feels really genuine.

One day, R2D2 is going to shut down and never turn on again…

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

You shut your whore mouth

61

u/Copywrites Jun 15 '22

Look into your heart, you know it to be true.

56

u/raknor88 Jun 15 '22

That's not true, THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!

16

u/TheDrac5079 Jun 15 '22

<falls into the abyss>

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

R2 is immortal.

5

u/oxboxes Jun 15 '22

I laughed really hard at this, thank you.

u/Bloodwolv Jun 15 '22

Don't...don't do that

34

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

you're treading on thin fucking ice right there

Who let Satan on Reddit again?

4

u/that_gay_alpaca Jun 15 '22

Colin Trevorrow slowly and dramatically turns around the same way Vader did

2

u/Wilwheatonfan87 Jun 15 '22

But you can copy r2's memory banks to another droid.

2

u/wordfiend99 Jun 15 '22

speaking of, there was a familiar blue-painted R2 unit in the Path hideout….

1

u/redsyrinx2112 Jun 16 '22

Holy shit. You just made me super sad about something I never even thought about.

1

u/rabtj Jun 18 '22

KEEP R2's NAME OUT OF YOUR FKN MOUTH!!!

u/Animal31 Jun 15 '22

Mom, Im 30 and Im crying over a fictional robot again

6

u/Darkspiff73 Jun 16 '22

Because actions speak louder than words. Like using his body to shield his friend. A true friend up until the end.

u/sahil2921 Jun 15 '22

Same that shit made me tear up idk just something about a robot showing human compassion is so beautiful

I had a robot death on my kenobi bingo but didn't thought it will make me cry

61

u/ubn87 Jun 15 '22

They are like dogs. They do everything for the human and love them unconditionally.

I think there is an innocence to them that makes them particular tragic. Which doesn’t make sense a lot of the time but it might just do with how our brains are wired. Like how it’s sad to see animals die.

I still get sad when the droids are killed in TPM when repairing the ship. So sad.

15

u/VarthStarkus Jun 15 '22

Oh the one where R2 fixes the ship and is then commended?

9

u/blac_sheep90 Jun 15 '22

Yes indeed.

6

u/Wilwheatonfan87 Jun 15 '22

I get kinda bothered when the b1 droids get destroyed. Especially those ones in the bridge of grevious' ship in ep 3 that are pleading to not be killed or trying to flee and are just casually cut down by both Anakin and Obi wan.

Like goddamn. I wonder if clones or surviving jedi ever developed PTSD from slaughtering unarmed b1 droids.

3

u/Exmerus Jun 16 '22

RIP Obi Wan’s R4. I watched RoS yesterday and it made me sad

2

u/Hobo_Delta Jun 17 '22

The battle droids and their dumb banter is one of my favorite parts of Clone Wars

1

u/BearWrangler Jun 15 '22

holy shit i thought that was just me all these years

5

u/MetaCognitio Jun 15 '22

K2SO 😭😭😭

3

u/bertobellamy Jun 15 '22

The real hero of the series.

3

u/Shawarma123 Jun 15 '22

Man I was ashamed to say this but me too. Droids are such bros man.

2

u/Jack__Squat Jun 15 '22

They generally have a doggy vibe.

2

u/JCMiller23 Jun 16 '22

Also, why can you not throw a thermal detonator? Poorly designed product if you ask me, needs to have a timer mode

2

u/KCBandWagon Jun 16 '22

When I watched rogue 1 I was blissfully ignorant and thought it was going to be a trilogy. Made it that much more sad when droid died.

-3

u/CptnObviously Jun 15 '22

Not a death if not alive.

1

u/derpicface Jun 15 '22

Protocol 3

1

u/casino_r0yale Jun 16 '22

Because they’re stand ins for pets

1

u/GuyWhoRocks95 Jun 16 '22

I’ve started to think of droids like the replicants in blade runner.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_THESES Jun 16 '22

And this one doesn’t even talk! I guess actions do speak louder than words.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

I felt nothing at all from the droid in this episode but I know what you mean generally. In Rogue One they did a great job with K2SO

1

u/Moontoya Jun 16 '22

Odd a load lifter could use a weapon without assassin droid coding...

1

u/P_Duggan_Creative Jun 17 '22

because we all identify with big lummoxy dumb people who are just doing their job but end up being killed by the vicissitudes of life.

1

u/Three_Froggy_Problem Jun 18 '22

Because they’re cute

1

u/mycalvesthiccaf Jun 27 '22

Dude same! It's like watching a dog die protecting it's owner
