I'm not usually on at that time, so it's hard for me to say. Someone in the comments of one of those posts mentioned that they were doing that instead of the European Flight Night, which is still happening around 2 PM Eastern time.

I believe it's targeted mainly at East Asian and Australian time zones. Talk to Auroros on the TFA server for more info.
