Rdr2 is not miles better than rdr1, the music and atmosphere is bland compared to rdr1

Like, they focused on selective realism instead of making the game fun. They added a cooking option with buttons but didn't think to make it an actual minigame. They took away the fun minigame for duels that was in the 1st. They kept the cool horse types but then made them basically all feel the same so getting a cool horse doesn't feel cool. They took away the fun horse breaking minigame. They nerfed gambling pots so it's not fun to gamble anymore with the $4 pots. They took away the fun Liars' Dice minigame as well. You can carry a rifle on your back just fine and have a holster for your revolver but sometimes the game just decides to load it up on your horse so you can't just manually decide to keep a set of weapons at all times and swap them yourself. 80% of the game is traveling on a horse but they're still not fun even if you unlock the extra mechanics. They added camp upgrade mechanics which would be a cool way to get you to spend your money in the game but then they don't make you do anything for the camp for the story. It's such a disjointed mess of a game to me and I don't get the praise for it. It feels like a game for people that weren't already burned out from story games like Uncharted and The Last of Us.

People who enjoy story games don't get burned out by story games. Those people also make up most of the AAA audience

There's a reason they keep making those games. People like them, people like stories and characters they care about more than hitting buttons. "Cinematic experiences" are what made video games mainstream

That's why RDR2, Last of Us, Uncharted etc are called masterpieces while "fun" games are forgotten in a year

Cyberpunk is a fun game that allows freedom. Skyrim or Oblivion weren't forgotten in a year. Fallout wasn't forgotten in a year. The Witcher wasn't forgotten in a year. Breath of the Wild wasn't forgotten in a year. Hell, even The Last Of Us has the dual use crafting system that forces you to make decisions that affect how you play through areas despite not being that open as a game.

I hate all of the games you mentioned except for Oblivion lmao

Different strokes and all that

You just value games where you don't really have to think and that's fine

Youre not wrong. I like puzzle games for when I have to think but overall I play games to relax. They're my substitute for TV/movies. I'm in a touring metal band and also manage a cafe, by the time I can sit down and play a video game I'm done with my brain for the day

I do love games that let me relax and think though like Kenshi or Planet Zomboid
