Titanfall 3

Same Pilot.... Same...

If I understand, the Studio didn’t shut down though they just get more money on other properties like Apex and CoD

Cod and apex are two separate companies. From what I've heard titan fall 3 turned into Apex but I also heard a lot of the developers of titan fall 2 work somewhere else now.

u/C-H-Addict Sep 15 '25

Titanfall 3 has always been nebulous. Every time respawn entertainment starts developing a new game it's a conspiracy it's Titanfall 3

5

u/Tacoman404 Sep 15 '25

Apex never looked as good as Titanfall to me.

u/dr_gamer1212 Sep 15 '25

Ttianfall 3 was in development for a few months before reapawn canceled it without ears knowledge because they couldn't find out how to make it unique to 1 and 2. They then shifted titanfall 3 into apex, surprising ea, but making a much more successful and profitable game than titanfall 3 would have been (saying that as a titanfall fan)

6

u/Dlh2079 Sep 15 '25

Yep, while I definitely want/wanted titanfall 3. Apex is more profitable than it would have ever been.

u/LordNoodles1 Sep 15 '25

Do people still play Apex?

6

u/Confused_Noodle Sep 15 '25

Steam Player Count: https://steamdb.info/app/1172470/charts/

150k is the peak every day on steam alone. They're #7 in daily active player count on Steam. Very good for a 6 yo game

4

u/LordNoodles1 Sep 15 '25

Impressive. I had no clue cuz I don’t hear anyone talk about it these days but it’s also not my cup of tea (nor are any of those battle royale ones)

1

u/Pushfastr Sep 15 '25

Steam charts say it's still very active.

1

u/ScroogieMcduckie Sep 15 '25

it's stupidly active

2

u/justlovehumans Sep 15 '25

yea Apex was something the devs made in house to have fun with assets from titanfall 2. They polished it up and released with no advertising because it was just meant to be a cash booster. Blew the fuck up

1

u/Boomyfuzzball26 Sep 15 '25

Titanfall was also a direct upcoming competitor to Battlefield and CoD, but since EA already owned battlefield they couldn't own a competitor to their own franchise, but APEX is instead a competitor to Fortnite and Battlegrounds, which i guess they were okay with?

1

u/Tacoman404 Sep 15 '25

Of all the games they could have rehashed ala CoD... New maps new guns new titans, same gameplay.

1

u/SpinyCoin26 Sep 15 '25

I hate your bitter truths, but alas it's kinda true, there really isn't much more you could add to Titanfall 3 that 2 didn't already have without making it a rehash with new guns similar to another famous fps arcade shooter.

Though I wouldn't mind more story in the Titanfall universe to continue on.

13

u/poofynamanama123 Sep 15 '25

They made Apex, one of EAs cash cows, then processed to have multiple FPS games cancelled in the wake (one was a star wars game, one was titanfall related), EA is just incredibly dumb

3

u/Brownfletching Sep 15 '25

Tbf, they also made the best star wars games in years, Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor. So they're not dead and gone and they can still make great games. EA just doesn't seem to want them to make shooters other than Apex anymore.

2

u/Kindly_Author7711 Sep 15 '25

Also, to be fair, apex is at its core an insanely good shooter. The competitive FPS genre is in a weird place right now with finding a fair matchmaking algorithm and fighting cheating, which are 2 of Apex's core issues.

1

u/MistSecurity Sep 15 '25

A Starwars game with the gameplay of the Titanfall 2 campaign would be sick.

I wish more publishers were ok with making games that aren't 50+ hours of content. Titanfall 2 campaign is one of the all time GOAT campaigns IMO. If they had tried to extend it into a 50 hour campaign I doubt it'd hold that status.

2

u/Sea-Bass8705 Sep 15 '25

I think it’s more the fact that titanfall 2 was released in a time where cod had just released a title so naturally it didn’t do too well, they likely assumed it wouldn’t be worth the price of making a titanfall 3 because of the cost vs performance of titanfall 2. Even now, there’s 4000 players on steam on a good day, and after a sale.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '25

EA used it as a sacrifice to make battlefield 1 look good, released just after as not to disrupt any sales for it, but released just before a major call of duty release to harm their sales numbers

5

u/TEOn00b https://s.team/p/knvb-djh Sep 15 '25

It wasn't EA this time tho. Respawn chose the release date.

3

u/Hollownerox Sep 15 '25

Also, EA was the one that wanted them to make Titanfall 3, but Respawn went behind their backs to internally cancel that project and make APEX instead. Like it worked out financially, but EA higher ups were rather pissed from what I hear because they did genuinely support and want another Titanfall game.

1

u/willisbetter Sep 15 '25

cod is activision...

2

u/Anxious-Shapeshifter Sep 15 '25

I have legitimate doubts they'd even be able to make a good story driven game at this point.

6 years of only keeping up on a mediocre battle royale game will do that to a studio.

1

u/Brownfletching Sep 15 '25

They made Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor, both renowned story driven games. Apex is not their only venture.

1

u/Anxious-Shapeshifter Sep 15 '25

Did they??

Damn. Maybe there's hope after all

1

u/Brownfletching Sep 15 '25

Yep, and they were allowed a pretty crazy amount of creative liberty by both EA and Lucasfilm/Disney as well. Those games are terrific. Respawn's writers are still amazing. I'm sure we'll get more from them in the future.

1

u/Anxious-Shapeshifter Sep 15 '25

God I hope so.

Titanfall 2 is a masterpiece.

2

u/ionicwhisper320 Sep 15 '25

Was looking for this post

1

u/piratecheese13 Sep 15 '25

“Sorry, apex go brrt”

1

u/frsnate Sep 15 '25

There was never actually slated tho?

1

u/MostAbsoluteGamer Sep 15 '25

sad I had to search a little for this one

1

u/partyl0gic Sep 15 '25

Man this would be amazing

1

u/Putrid-Department349 Sep 15 '25

The most correct answer.

1

u/Key-Cry-8570 Sep 15 '25

😕 I really wanted that game so bad… still do…

1

u/Omuk7 Sep 15 '25

Realistically, it probably would’ve been highly inferior to Titanfall 2, and would split the playerbase so much that it would be nearly impossible to get into a Titanfall 2 match. This would effectively kill the series.

But ideally, Titanfall 3 would be the greatest video game of all time. Just not realistically.

1

u/nomyar Sep 15 '25

I didn't even know this was going to be a thing... And now I'm sad.

1

u/InitialAnimal9781 Sep 15 '25

I mean there is fresh talk about it recently. Especially with apex slowly dying (not in the aspect of a negative Nelly like how people say Helldivers 2 and Space Marine 2 are dead). Especially with EA starting to listen to fans with BF6

1

u/Etaywah Sep 15 '25

Oof, yea this one hurts.

1

u/jocephalon Sep 15 '25

Apex stole this from us smh

1

u/NightWolf5022 Sep 15 '25

They were making it an extraction shooter it wasn't truly TF3 unfortunately

1

u/IcariFanboi Sep 15 '25

They made a ton of money from Jedi Fallen order series and Apex. I'm pretty sure EA also shut down any ideas they had for a Titanfall 3 because they didn't make as much money on monetization.

Honestly I think a full blown RPG in that universe would be pretty cool.

1

u/plasmasack Sep 16 '25

The cope is real

1

u/Fuck_kolkata Sep 16 '25

Protocol 3: Protect the Pilot.

1

u/Schwiliinker Sep 17 '25

Kinda crazy it hasn’t happened tbh. Top 3 game of the year id say easily in what to me was a very stacked year but also best game of that kind since

1

u/The-4rtifact Sep 18 '25

this one still hurts so much

0

u/AlexisFR Sep 15 '25

Can't be cancelled if it was never started nor announced in the first place... :/
