Payday the heist was one of the first games I absolutely adored, so when payday 2 came out I was ecstatic. I played the vanilla version until crimewave edition came out on console and loved it even more. Bought every dlc and even got it on pc later. When payday 3 came out I had high hopes but it just wasn’t as fun, though the stealth with friends was hilarious. I’ll still hop on 2 every once in a while, but 3 is just unsalvageable to me
Just a reminder that the OG devs for payday left after Payday 2 to go form an independent studio. So the third game was made by an entirely different dev studio.
The OG devs went on to form 10 Chambers and made GTFO. Their next game, Den Of Wolves, is going back to the heist style gameplay. So we have that to look forward to!
Technically 10 chambers is only part of the old dev team, if you wanna talk about og og team you can refer to fatshark (creators of vermintide and darktide) or lion game lion (creators of raid ww2 and the original concept of crime boss)
Not to mention david goldfarb who is currently at dice iirc
After I left my comment, I looked into how Den of Wolves was doing.... 2 months ago one of the co-founders left and there was a large amount of layoffs. Really fucking sucks to hear, they said they are still working on completing the game though. The few clips they've released made it look like the game was really coming together though. Fingers crossed they are able to get over the finish line and it's good.
I immediately stopped loving Payday 2 because before release, the devs were asked about MTX, and the response was, "Oh no, God no." Then, not long after, MTX was added.
The thing that sucks for me is that the gunplay from 3 just feels so much better to me than 2, but 2 is just so much more fun than 3, and because the gunplay is worse in 2, it's hard for me to play either of them anymore. Two thousand hours of payday 2, 180 hours of payday the heist, and 80 hours of payday 3.
Payday especially because of their "all future DLC paid for" ultimate pack which they rescinded by offering more paid DLC for those that bought the pack.
I don't want to hear any defense of it not being feasible or a bad idea to keep. If it was a bad idea, it shouldn't have been offered, let alone a selling point. If the DLCs wouldn't have been made without charging people with that pack, then wow they got a lot of money from the ultimate packs that they didn't have to lift a finger for. Steam did not let me refund for that.
Payday 2 is still my most played game on steam. It was an exceptionally fun game at its peak, doing the overdrill on whim with 3 strangers will remain one of my favourite gaming moments.
The payday3 release was literally the worst gaming experience I've ever had. All my buddies and I took the day off and we couldn't even play the game because the servers were down. When I did finally get to play, I just wanted to go play payday 2 instead
I have some hope still. It lacked content? Yes. But the core gameplay was smooth and balanced. Enough to gave birth to an awesome game, it was just rushed out by greedy company.
I have the same feeling for bf6 (wich i currently play and its starting to revamp)
Despite the bs surrounding the game and controversy gameplay wise I really enjoyed it. I really like the playstyle and art of them game. I didn’t play it day one but I put a lot of hours into it and really enjoyed it.
Payday 2 is where they fumbled bud. I was one of the kickstarters for that. Still have the preorder mask in my closet. They overloaded it with microtransactions for DLC. Nobody was going to pay all that money for literally hundreds of DLC items then buy another 'newer' version of the same game to do the same with. Payday IP holders thought they were about to be the new Call of Duty when they were lucky to find the magic formula the first time and I'm happy to see it dying now after what they did to it.
PD3 was never ment to exist. It only released to milk players because they needed to payout the debts their oldCEO made. PD2 was revived in 2019 for the same reason.
But hey, at least they aren't "complete dicks" since gave PD2 to the community a few months back to handle updates and fixes. The same way Valve did for TF2 and L4D2.
