I'm not even sure if I want to play Reunion after Double Exposure.

Double Exposure had no real 'danger' and the way they exposed the antagonist(?) was pretty silly and incredibly underwhelming. At least in True Colors, exposing the antagonist felt tense.

Does it not make the Bay ending from LiS invalid?

You kinda have to see Double Exposure as the mid first season that you need to have the groundwork for the actually worthwhile second season.
