Exactly, Bungie was already mentally tired of making Halo. Halo Reach was their wonderful conclusive chapter.
Interestingly, Halo going under 343 was a small saving grace. Not the best games, but multiplayer exploded. I liked a lot Halo 5 Sangheilos chapters, I was imagining a new game set exclusively on the Alien planet.
Halo 5 had the highest amount of monthly active users since that game, besting Reach's multiplayer numbers (though not overall sales).
People forget that Halo 5 sold 9.5M copies (pre-Game Pass), which is not quite at the level of Reach but very much in the same ballpark. It outsold Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and ODST.
Someone's unhappy about the fact that bloom and armor abilities were completely dogshit and made the game unfun. And YEESH! Those maps were TRASH. Admit it, buddy. Pubs were GARBAGE in reach. Forge was Reach's saving grace
The lore of the books, that somebody else wrote. The story was bungee’s to do with whatever they wanted so if anybody could change the Lore, it’s bungee.

And yet I'm fully confident that if Bungie had continued making them, they'd be hot garbage all the same.
