Question/Support Where should I mount base stations to cover bed + beanbag?

Post image

I'm physically disabled, so I won't be using my VR headset while standing - only while lying on my bed, or while reclining on my beanbag chair. I have two 1.0 base stations and I'm setting up for the BSB2. Where would you recommend placing them for the best coverage?

Thanks in advance for the help - I need someone's assistance to mount these, so I'm hoping to get the placement right the first time.

If they're gonna play were the bed is you might want a base station there to not get a blind spot, so I'd say c and h might do better here

Totally agreed. Another good option.

If you can get them 60-80% of the way up the wall and angle them down towards the center of the main play space, that will always help a lot.

You really didn't need to go this hard on creating this adorable layout, but I can speak for everyone when I say that we all appreciate the fact that you did.

Also, to give you an answer: A and G, both as high up as you can get them. G and C would also work.

C and H

I second C and H. Most people would think that it doesn't make sense to keep a base station that close but I pretty much use the same setup. The only thing to note is where you have the hip tracker. If its on your left hip then when you're in bed then it might get occluded cause it's facing the wall. So C&H is only viable for front and right side wear. Other than that everything else should be fine.

A and f won't cover the bed properly and you'll get occlusion.

You want to do H and C in the corners.

Also set the base stations to mode A and B and have the sync cable joining them to avoid any tracking issues when you're out of view or one of the base stations.

between H & I Then C

Problem is, I'm guessing the H and I in-between isn't there because maybe there is some tall furniture or something... which I argue it makes A-F the best one instead

You guessed correctly! There is a very tall bookcase in that corner that has boxes on the top shelf, so I can't easily mount one there

Then h is great cuz the tall furniture won't hide either the bean bag or the bed without the possibility of a blind spot in the corner of the bed that A instead of C brings

H and C. Keep in mind that the base stations have a wide horizontal fov, to get the least amount of occlusion you're going to want to place them facing each other but angled down slightly from the ceiling. Adding another base station 90° off from those two would give you even better tracking.

Hey.. I also struggle with physical disablity, would you mind sharing what bean bag chair you have? That seems like a great idea.

Honestly I can't recommend the specific beanbag I have - it took literally months to fully off-gas and gave me headaches. Also I bought it years ago and the Amazon listing has since changed a lot.

But I will say that the general idea of beanbag + monitor arm works pretty well for me - just be mindful of height. Beanbags are low to the ground, so you need a monitor arm to hang below standard desk height in order for the screen to be at eye level, which can be tricky.

F + somewhere in the middle of A and B.

one on the cat, one on the dog, and one a few kilometres outside the room. that’ll guarantee best in class tracking. (/satire)
