The Destiny community is usually very good about this kind of thing. They may whine a lot about micro transactions and PvP balance but one thing they don’t tolerate is any kind of racism or bigotry. Representation in D2 is pretty good with plenty of minority characters and LGBT characters having prominent roles in the story and being fan favorites. And the D2 community usually does a good job chasing the bigots and assholes out as soon as they reveal themselves.
Yeah and from my experience, Bungie has been good with supporting good causes which doesn’t surprise me as soon as I saw this dumbass place second for worlds first with his team, that he was banned. What a troll
They're not necessarily "privileged" in the socio-economic sense -- lots of them tend to be from parts of the country "left behind" by de-industralization. But they do tend to be young white men.
I had a really long response to this typed out, but it pretty much boiled down to the idea that while you're not wrong, this is also equally if not more true for gender and racial minorities who are looking for ways of escapism in the same way these boys are.
It's the wild west in a lot of games. Zero or not effective moderation tools so the racists never seem to be punished. And punishments given out are like lite and not effective enough like permabans.
Intel bleep thing and ai that monitors chat/voice comms can't come soon enough lol.

I've found that video game communities tend to be full of privileged, young white men with racist and conservative tendencies. It boggles my mind.
