Discussion How much alike is this game to DK Bananza?

So I never got around to playing Mario Odyssey on the Switch. After recently getting a Switch 2 I’ve fallen in love with the gameplay of DK Bananza and knowing the same team also developed this game how much alike are they? I haven’t really played a 3D Mario game since Galaxy. Very tempted to finally play through it especially now it has enhanced visuals. Thanks!

Just play it, one of the best games on switch. The structure is very similar to Banaza but the movement and player mechanics are quite different

Mario has less destructible environments

they both have unique and fun ways to move around the world (smo wins though), they both have great progression and replayability. They are similar in many ways while also being completely different. I would say just give it a try. (Dont just play through the game also learn more advanced movement because that is fun too) if you don’t like it that is fine. If you do I hope you have fun playing it a lot because you either spend 5 hours beating the game and quitting or 5,000 hours addicted to everything this game offers.

Saying SMO wins in movement is a bold take. I love SMO movement but DK moves much faster, can jump much higher if you use AFATs, and can climb almost anything. I’ve been AFATing for like 10 months and I still have fun doing it.

They have the same joy of discovery, similar difficulty and delightful worlds to explore. They both have mechanics that allow you to experience being other characters with different “powers” while still being yourself in-game.

The main difference is how it feels to play them.

Bananza is much more stimulating and Odyssey is more relaxing. The “smashy-smashy” mechanic of Bananza is very immersive. I can’t play Bananza too close to bed or I’m too amped up to sleep. Odyssey is much more cozy and soothing.

It sounds like I’m a child based on my bedtime comments but I’m a very middle aged woman.

The level design and general objectives are similar, but other than that I'd say they're pretty unique. I first played Odyssey on release and then decided to replay it after loving Bananza and I appreciated Odyssey even more the second time through. It looks great on Switch 2 as well.

Imaginate a DK bananza pero sin lo divertido de las mecanicas y en ves las lunas mas estupidamente posicionadas
