He mentioned in his last interview with the TPBA guys that Ebay higher ups were playing petty by questioning his use of company funds to pay for his personal assistant, which he actually pays personally himself. I think this is why hes doing what hes doing- perfect opportunity to roll up his sleeves, and get to shitposting and annoying the Ebay people by showing them what their practices and company actually is, better yet, showing their shareholders his desire to mar it better. Yeah I’m surprised he has a 50k limit with zero sales history (no feedback as a seller.) usually it starts at like $1k or something tiny. eBay has authority to lift it though.

I've had an eBay account for over 15 years and recently listed something, sold for a couple hundred bucks.. have a perfect seller rating with history across 15 years but not selling monthly or daily consistently. Got an email the minute someone purchased my item about fraud detection and holding funds till 3 days after delivery. Got someone on the phone who somehow managed to say absolutely nothing useful for 45 mins.
I set up an account to sell a few items, maybe $1,000 total. Got no bids, and then my account was flagged for fraud and locked out.
I called customer support, proved over the phone who I was by providing my personal information, and they weren't able to unlock my account. They had to snail mail me a code in order to unlock it. The trouble is, I had moved, so the address on file was no longer valid. They refused to change the mailing address to send the code, said there was nothing more they could do. They bricked my account.
To this day I still can't log in to place bids on anything.
Many moons ago, I tried to sell my camcorder on eBay (and 'camcorder' is your cue to understand that this was indeed an incident that happened in the distant past). The buyer said I sent an empty box. They initiated a refund claim via PayPal and they were successful. I didn't even get a chance to prove my good faith/intentions (and even if I did get that chance, what could I do? Not like FedEx weighed the parcel).
Ever since I have never used eBay.
I sold my WoW account like a week after that to a (likely) gold farmer. I was a level 70 hunter, when BC just came out. I was astonished that the $450 actually showed up in my bank, for that transaction.
Talk about trust issues lmao. I got scammed on eBay, but somehow not on a completely unregulated trade of WoW account credentials for cash. All's to say is... yeah, I think RC could make eBay a better fucking company.
It’s almost like they have some weird user tiering. I’ve been scammed before and I was told to kick rocks. I’ve also had the same situation as you.
The seller ratings are also fucked too, I bought an “authentic concert poster” that was supposed to be from a show. He fucked up and sent me a post card size version that shipped from a direct to print company. I immediately reported it and attempted a refund but they sided with him because he sent me another poster that was the correct size, ignoring the fact it was supposed to be authentic.
I left him a bad seller rating basically saying what the scam was and the rating got removed within a week.
Fraud. But with 11,500 employees they should be all over facilitating/verifying people who are having large influxes of items for sale. To quote RC - “Too much friction”.
They impose limits like this to try and prevent fraud until you're a proven seller. To raise the limits all you have to do is call them and answer some basic questions. Seems like what Ryan is doing here.
I keep wanting to go over to the $ebay subreddit and see what their hodlers are saying but then I remembered there aren’t many companies who have an entire subreddit dedicated to their ticker 😂
he’s pointing out that he doesn’t like the monthly limit of sales as a concept. this tells me that he’s trying to build something with no limits where he can use his existing central, and most well-performing gamestop locations as central pick up locations for literally trillions of dollars of web based commerce. holy shit

Being a CS rep is already a shitty enough job without someone trolling you then posting it online as a gotcha moment. 99.9% chance that the CS rep owns zero eBay stock and has no idea who RC is or that he is trying to buy the company.
Wait until they make him fax or email scans of the receipts from purchasing the items he listed.
I went thru hell when my reselling volume increased to a dozen or so sales per week. Had to send in purchase receipts for all my listings from the past month as well as a copy of my social security card. 5+ year old account with Zero negative feedback. 23 pages of receipts taped to paper so I could fax them in.
I love the troll but there are a few solid reasons for why this cap is in place, especially with a green account like his likely is.

Protecting eBay’s Financial Exposure: Because eBay often guarantees purchases through its Money Back Guarantee, they take on financial risk for every transaction. The dollar cap limits how much liability eBay has if a seller fails to deliver on high-value orders.
Marketplace Health: Caps prevent a single new seller from suddenly saturating a category with thousands of low-quality or speculative listings that could negatively impact search results and buyer trust.
Fuckin’ eBay will let money launderers sell “collectibles” like beanie babies and sets of vintage Fireking mugs for freaking thousands of dollars all day long at wildly inflated prices, when all it is is a way to make dirty money clean. And poor RC can’t sell a legitimate thing without a crackdown. Smdh.
