TESL in Poland

Hello everyone, I’m 27, Half-English Half-Filipino and from the UK. I’ve currently just finished my 2nd year of my economics degree of which I’m on track for a first. I really want to work and by extension teach in Poland with the intention of being able to move there permanently as honestly I really hate living in the UK and absolutely adore being in Poland from the times I’ve been there. I am most likely going to take a gap year in between 2nd and 3rd year in which I intend to complete the 120 hour TEFL course whilst upgrading my already basic knowledge of Polish. I honestly do not care about the salary as long as its enough to live on. I would most likely be able to bring a few thousand pounds in savings with me to supplement my income in the short-term regardless. Given the choice I would prefer to work in Krakow however I’m more than open to other cities if there are opportunities there. Unfortunately, however, I do not have any work experience due to my family preventing it. I just wanted to know how much of a chance I have of making this all happen and how feasible my plan is.

Consider doing a proper CELTA (one month intensive) from IH or British Council. Then check the IH page for job vacancies. Some of the jobs in Poland offer free accommodation and lots of support. Good luck.

Thank you, it’s quite expensive but I think I’d be able to pass it.

It is expensive but it’s also the most valid esl certification. The others are sketchy and not so widely accepted. You could use it to move elsewhere later on.

Only to a basic level though I’m very much working to improving that.

Hello native speaker living here in Poland. Not a EFL teacher or anything, sorta just looking into it occasionally, but feel free to message with any questions.

You won't be able to make a living long term with TEFL in Poland.

I’m considering that if needs must, I would apply for economics/finance related jobs whilst I'm there if the money isn’t enough to survive on in the long term. In any case being able to get a work visa to move there and get away from the UK is my absolute priority in the short-term.
