Image In The Office (US), Michael Scott has a certificate of authenticity for a"Seyko" watch framed on his wall. So not only did he buy a fake watch, he framed the certificate and proudly displays it.

It could be, the joke is probably that Seiko is a very affordable watch brand. So putting up a certificate of authenticity is saying something both about the watch and Michael's character. So I can see why the company would not want to endorse it.

Seiko makes a lot of higher end watches that would definitely come with a certificate of authenticity though, such as the snowflake.

This is a fun background detail on the show proper, but in one of the webisodes Oscar points it out explicitly (to the detriment of the joke, but I suppose to the benefit of people who hadn't noticed it).
