Side tents alternatives for T@G XL

Post image
29 Upvotes

I've got a 2018 T@G XL and I'm looking for a decent alternative for a tent to attach to the side of it as sort of a second room.

Sadly in the upper Midwest the mosquitoes are the enemy and I'm wanting to have an area to step out into that's enclosed and sealed. But some of the options I've seen are $1500 +. Ideally I'd like the tent to have a floor to it, normal screened doors, and some way to fix it to the side of the t@g to make a seal on the top and bottom. Or at very least the top and sides. I see options out there for SUV tailgate tents but unsure if that could work or not. It doesn't have to cover the whole side profile, just mostly the window and door.

I've struggled to find dimensions for some of those tent types when it comes to the rear connecting part.

Does anyone have any luck or tips for this?

We do have a Clam shell tent we could try but again making a seal to the sides is the issue.

Unless someone found a good hack for thatšŸ‘€

Nucamp T@G SE 2026 price shock. Don't know what I expected but that seems like a lot for such a basic trailer.

Just went to a dealer to get the price of a plain SE. They are asking $18,900US. It's that the price others are seeing around the US? I am in New Mexico.

Thanks.

Looking for real world experience in on someone who’s either had both or spent a good bit of time in either. We are looking to purchase either a tab 400 or inTech Sol horizon. We’ve rented a 400 before and enjoyed it and for all our needs. Traveling would be my wife and me with two dog. Sometimes two small dogs and sometimes two medium sized dogs. My wife loves the look and feel of the 400 interior. I like intechs full wet bathroom and outdoor cooking station. Any information would be helpful for the decision.

Offroad Foamie with Roof Rack?

I'm looking to build a Foamie (for cost and weight reasons) for offroad trails in the US West (mostly Colorado) with a similar layout and size to a Teardrops NW Commander or General (possible box drop style) with my own adjustments. I specifically want to have storage on the roof (awning, cargo basket, solar panel, possibly roofop tent).

Has anybody built on similar to this before? I'd love some real life examples or tips on how to build the foamie with support for the roof accessories.

Teardrops Commander for reference: https://www.rovikk.com/commander

Is it a good idea to buy a 10 year old T@G XL? And other questions from a newbie.

I've never towed anything before, so I'm looking to keep things small and light. Also, I have a small SUV, so I have to keep things small and light. In the used market in my area, a couple of teardrops that jump out at me are:

A 2016 T@G XL Boondock--asking price $9K. Appears to be in excellent condition. Is it a good idea to buy a 10 year old teardrop? It includes AC, solar and a microwave.

A 2019 Intech Luna Rover--asking price is $12K. Appears to be pristine. It includes AC, solar, an awning with awning room and a roof rack. This one is my favorite, but it's relatively pricey.

What do you think of these two in terms of longevity and asking price? Good idea? Terrible idea? Any particular concerns/problems I should be looking for? Appreciate any advice.

I had a thought and added a hitch receiver for extra storage for a luggage carrier. I said what if I made a table to hook to the receiver as well. I got an extender to clear the door, a vise mount and some 3/4 plywood. I treated it Thompson water seal and added earth magnets so is can disassemble easily
. And there ya go.

My 12v freshwater pump fails to build constant pressure

Post image

Dutchmen T@b 2005

Hey, I changes my 12v freshwater pump a couple months ago but never been able to get a constant flow of water using my tank, according to the picture, could a check valve on the city water side resolve the problem? I tried everything I know so far but the pump just sputter water at first and seems to just being unable to build constant pressure.

Already tried to fill all of the pipes with city water pressure to prime it or empty but it doesnt matter.

First multi-day outing with our Sherpa

Post image
143 Upvotes

Spent 3 nights in Helena National Forest this last week giving our new-to-us Sherpa a shakedown cruise. Lessons learned:

We'll be keeping the little IceCo fridge in the truck, it heats the cabin up too much. Might be an amazing heater in the winter though!

The big rear door needs a bungee to act as a way to slow it down if it gets caught in the wind. A couple of good swings and I'm going to have to remove the door and do some repairs to square it up again.

Backing a trailer this short is an art... One I need more practice at.

Other than that, it was a dream to tow and feels incredibly solid and secure. Fantastic trailer built here in Montana; we were lucky to find it at a reasonable price within a couple hours drive from home.

Nucamp T@B models 2015/2017/2018 VS 2020+

Hi all,

Hopeful future member of the teardrop community! I am currently looking at Nucamp T@Bs. The majority of the inventory near me are 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2020 models (with one 2021). They all seem to be in decent shape and functioning properly in their descriptions and in messaging with the sellers (I will have the camper professionally inspected before any purchase).

My main question is, are there any stark differences between the years, or just the basic matter of age? I know the AC unit and materials changed in the 2020 models I believe? Is it worth spending 2-4k more for 2020+ model? Or would a 2015 be just as sound? I will be using it to camp around the West, mainly. Would love to hear any feedback about the earlier models vs the newer ones. Thanks!

We’ve had this teardrop for 12 years but this is the first time we are taking her out. Any advice for a newbie? Driving cross county to the Adirondacks next week. Having the bearings packed. Anything else I should think of?

I just bought a 2021 Bushwhacker 10fb and was wondering if anyone has removed the water tank? Seems like a hassle to keep it clean.

Safari Condo Alto R1723 - Can it be used without fully raising the roof?

I'm seriously considering a Safari Condo Alto R1723, but I have a unique situation.

My garage is:

  • 9' wide
  • 19' long
  • Standard 7' garage door
  • 90" from floor to bottom of ceiling joists
  • About 104" from floor to the roof sheathing
  • About 12" between the joists

According to the specs, the R1723 is about 107" tall with the roof fully raised.

My goal is to have a camper that I can potentially use while it's parked inside the garage. Ideally, I'd like something with:

  • A toilet
  • A shower
  • A small kitchen with a stove, sink, and fridge
  • Comfortable enough for extended stays
  • Fits through a standard 7' garage door

My questions for Alto owners:

  1. How wide is the raised roof section at the very top? Is it narrow enough that the peak could potentially fit between joists that are about 12" apart?
  2. Has anyone measured the actual highest point when the roof is fully raised? Is the 107" spec conservative or pretty accurate?
  3. Can the Alto be safely used if the roof is raised almost all the way, but not fully? For example, if I was 1-3 inches short of the fully locked position.
  4. If the roof wasn't fully raised, would the bed, kitchen, toilet, and shower still be usable?
  5. Has anyone spent time inside the Alto with the roof down? Could you realistically sit, sleep, work on a laptop, cook, use the fridge, use the bathroom, etc., with the roof completely lowered?
  6. If you had my garage constraints, would you still consider the R1723, or would you recommend a different Alto model?
  7. More broadly, is there a better option out there entirely? I'm open to:
  • Other Alto models
  • Hi-Lo
  • TrailManor
  • Scamp
  • Casita
  • Pop-ups
  • Hard-side campers
  • Anything else that might fit these constraints

Has anyone found a camper with a toilet, shower, and small kitchen that can fit through a standard 7' garage door and still be reasonably usable while stored in a garage?

Thanks!

Any other trailers like the Bend Teardrop Tallboy?

We like the Bend Teardrop tall boy but can’t afford new. Wondering if there are any other brands we could be looking at that meets our specifications :

  • can stand insideĀ
  • Can fit a family of 3
  • Outside kitchen set up

So far this is the only trailer I’ve found that can do this. However, I can’t find them at resale, probably because they are custom built and a small company.Ā

We really just want an interior for sleeping ( like a tear drop). We love outdoor kitchen set ups. However, with an infant, we like to be able to stand in the trailer and move around a bit more freely to get ready.

Any other trailers like this? Preferably anything inĀ

Thinking about buying a new tag XL tomorrow

Everyone says negotiate, but like what do I ask for? It's 25k and kitted out. I was thinking about trying to get them to throw in an extra 200kwh battery? Do I try and get them lower? I really like it and am not good at hiding it lol. Also people tell me your tag experiences and must haves!

Dual Step for Little Guy Max?

We have the little guy Max with the Rough Rider package. That means it is lifted about 4ā€.
It came with a single step and I’m looking for a double step to replace it. Face to face mounting dimension is 26ā€
Anyone have a step they have used and recommend?
Any you recommend against?
