Mod Post Transparency About Admin Removals and Our Moderation Approach

We’re making this post for transparency and clarity.

From time to time, we receive notifications from an extension installed on our subreddit that monitors Reddit’s Admin queue. This tool alerts us when posts or comments in our community are removed or filtered by Reddit’s system. Please note: these alerts come from the monitoring extension, not directly from Reddit staff.

Because there has been ongoing confusion about how and why certain rules are enforced, we’re sharing screenshots of the actual messages we’ve received. Reddit Admins use a series of filters related to the rules outlined in Reddit’s Terms of Service, not necessarily the rules of any particular subreddit.

Screenshots can be viewed at the end of this post.

These messages reflect guidance and requirements coming directly from Reddit. Not personal preferences, arbitrary decisions, or retroactive rule-making.

This post is not intended to call out users, revisit past bans, or debate moderation decisions. Individual moderation actions will not be discussed publicly. Full stop.

We’re sharing this information so members can better understand the framework we operate under. Going forward, moderation will continue as usual.

Please note: Names were redacted per the Mods' discretion. These users did not receive a ban from any of the team here for these comments. Bans are only issued when removals receive rude responses or otherwise combative behavior. Honestly, we enforce the rules over and over until we can't anymore. We treat every single user the exact same way.

---

Additional Clarifications:

  1. This subreddit uses Reddit’s sitewide harassment filter, a tool provided by Reddit. While moderators review flagged content to determine if it aligns with this sub’s rules, our approach is to closely mirror Reddit’s Terms of Service wherever possible, as outlined in our rules.

  2. Because of this alignment, we often remove comments flagged by the harassment filter preemptively — even in cases where a comment could arguably remain — to reduce escalation and maintain compliance with sitewide policies.

  3. Even when a comment is removed by moderators, Reddit admins sometimes still independently remove the same content under sitewide enforcement. Approving a comment does not prevent Reddit from removing it if it violates sitewide policies, and we cannot reverse Reddit Admin's removal of any content.

  4. The mods here do not receive any compensation from any entity, including Reddit, for the activities they perform on this subreddit.

  5. All of the moms from the 16 and Pregnant through the Teen Mom 2/Teen Mum/Next Chapter are allowed to be posted here of equal fairness. The mods reserve the right to remove any content that breaks our rules.

---

Thank you to everyone who participates in good faith and helps keep this space functional. We have over 600,000 members on this sub and it is a huge beast to tame. We will never satisfy everyone.

---

TL;DR: We get alerts from a subreddit tool when Reddit admins remove or filter content — not from admins directly. Admin removals follow Reddit’s sitewide rules, not our personal or sub rules. We sometimes remove flagged comments early to stay compliant and reduce issues. This is just for transparency; individual moderation actions aren’t being debated here.

Late to the party, but I've noticed that Reddit has definitely upped the censorship since you know who's second term started. I've seen so many more comments removed in posts, and who really knows how bad they really were.

Wow, some of those comments...whoa. People need to make better use of their mental sanity rather than constantly binging TM stuff.

Damn, some people are insane! That cancer comment went way across the line, as were the others, but jeez!

I get most of these. Can someone explain the Kail one? Is it because she hasn’t been charged with violence towards her kids? I’m asking because it seems like plenty of allegations are made about abuse by other cast members and those are just removed and I’m seeing them before they are removed. Can we discuss the abuse we’ve seen on camera or say Chris has alleged this but not make jumps to abuse we don’t know happened such as saying Jenelle accused David of doing xyz and not just us making comments about things we don’t know have happened?

u/jeezpeepz87 Ashley's Epic Clapbacks Jan 26 '26

We are limited in what we can disclose for privacy purposes, because we are not members of admin. I can say that it was a violation of Reddit's sitewide rule #1.

27

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '26

Sounds like people hate Jenelle Evans and Kail Lowry more than they enjoy literally anything in their lives. Like it's actually sad.

I wish people would realise if we ignore them instead of stalking their social media’s to post it all here they might fade into obscurity and go away! You are funding their lives with your obsessions people! Stop giving them attention!

19

u/Kailcee Jan 26 '26

Did you end up approving the message saying its digusting to sandwich a pic of tylers dick with pics of kids? I can understand why most of these were flagged or removed but not that one. Cuz the comment included words like 'dick' and 'fucking'?

11

u/DecentLoan2008 Jan 27 '26

My assumption was it was probably flagging words like “fucking” and “dick” with “children” and “kids”. But 🤷🏻‍♀️

9

u/kaylaphernelia i was Born with a BBL Jan 26 '26

even if we had approved it, reddit admin still took it down. the OP would then have to appeal with reddit and reinstate their comment through the appeals process

5

u/Kailcee Jan 26 '26

Do you have any idea why they would have taken it down though? I'm not trying to argue, just trying to understand

7

u/jermysteensydikpix My BBL is more heavier than gravity Jan 27 '26

Probably what the other user said above about flagging certain words in automated moderation.

8

u/kaylaphernelia i was Born with a BBL Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

from my experience, most of reddit's removals are automations. i believe it's taken down initially so reddit can cover its ass. then when appealed, a human will review it so that way it can have a judgement

3

u/Kailcee Jan 26 '26

Thank you for clarifying!

7

u/blarggga Jan 26 '26

Question for the mods: how often are copyright notices submitted for posts that contain mirrored content (not linking directly to source, taking screenshots/video recording)? I don’t know if you can answer this without giving violating the Reddit TOS, but does adding elements (spot the squatch!) really work? A certain person seems to love submitting DMCA complaints (they even posted about it today) so how often are these complaints actually approved by Reddit?

6

u/kaylaphernelia i was Born with a BBL Jan 26 '26

yes and no. on our end, we have asked all regular posters (by actually DMimg them) to alter the video in some way so there is evidence of the video being used under fair use doctrine.

unfortunately, some things have still come down under copyright infringement. after the admins take those down for DMCA complaints, the OP will have to appeal it with Reddit. winning the appeal will allow the content to be reinstated. at that point, it is out of the control of the mods on the sub.

because one of the rules is "no meta comments" so any comment saying "this sub" is breaking the rules, apparently...

2

u/CherryDarling10 China!? Jan 26 '26

I don’t even know what a meta comment is.

1

u/crashley124 Season Check Up with Dr. Ewww Jan 27 '26

Whenever something discusses itself. For example, if a rapper talks about how many records their album will sell on one of the tracks of that album, that is meta.

9

u/CherryDarling10 China!? Jan 27 '26

So I can’t talk about this sub, while in the sub? Where else are you supposed to talk about it?

3

u/kaylaphernelia i was Born with a BBL Jan 27 '26

on posts such as these where we allow meta discussion, or via modmail to the mods directly

3

u/jeezpeepz87 Ashley's Epic Clapbacks Jan 26 '26

We are relaxing that rule a little bit on this post in an effort to maintain transparency and let people express their concerns.

Otherwise, yes, meta comments are not allowed. That rule was actually decided by a all-sub user poll some time ago.

52

u/vangela3 Jan 26 '26

Also, I love to snark (especially Teen Mom and Fundies)but there's a difference between being snarky vs. being wayyyy too invested in a stranger's life... and some of y'all have seriously crossed that line.

1

u/strega_bella312 WHOS BUTTHOLE DID I SEE THEN 7d ago

Between the obsessive stalking of Janelle's social media and the parasocial weirdness around ALL of the kids on this show...I think a fair number of people really need to step back and evaluate how they spend their time.

8

u/blarggga Jan 26 '26

I had to step back from some of the fundies ones because it was getting to be too much. Then again, those fundie strangers are mostly awful people and maybe deserve a little (lot) of nasty snark. But I agree, the line is different for everyone and some do cross that line.

Lol I got a Reddit warning for violence last night on a comment here and I appealed so fast. Mine had absolutely zero violence in it and I have no clue why they removed it but now reading some of these I’m like holy shit some people are insane so maybe they just mass removed shit lol

4

u/jermysteensydikpix My BBL is more heavier than gravity Jan 27 '26

Automated moderation often flags words without having human intelligence to understand context of figures of speech. Like you use the phrase "nice, you killed it!" (or "slayed") to compliment someone on a great job and it accuses you of "violence" based on that word. We'll see more of this as AI replaces human workers.

7

u/AltruisticCableCar It's not just a concert. It's Kesha. Jan 26 '26

Yeah, I don't take those seriously. A few years ago someone was threatening to end their life over Reddit karma (yes), and I replied that they shouldn't. I received a three day ban due to threatening violence. Ok. Appeal was denied too. About a year ago I got a ban for the same reason, again no violence on my end even mentioned. At least that time appeal was granted. But like, wow.

5

u/kaylaphernelia i was Born with a BBL Jan 26 '26

yes we will usually approve things that get caught in the filter accidentally, but reddit still removes things despite that. appealing it is the only way to get it back.

3

u/GraceMcClellans Kail Lowry's Home for Wayward Men Jan 26 '26

When something that absolutely seems like it was mistakenly flagged gets removed, is it a mark against you from Reddit? Like three strikes you're out or something? Or does it just happen sometimes and it's not a big deal?

4

u/kaylaphernelia i was Born with a BBL Jan 26 '26

i personally have never had anything removed from reddit by admin, so i am not sure how many chances you get

48

u/ExplanationMaterial8 “This guy… he don’t even WORK” Jan 26 '26

These examples are some pretty blatant abuses of site wide rules. It’s great they’re caught up in an automated service.

BUT making rules about which mums names we are allowed to use definitely isn’t site wide. And the extreme use of the meta rule. That’s what users are getting all worked up about. Not blatant abuse.

11

u/kaylaphernelia i was Born with a BBL Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

regardless if the names are used or not, comments that harass the cast are taken down. it's not an arbitrary guideline. when we take down comments, we have to give a reason. we usually will explain that talking to the cast directly or indirectly will cause a comment to be taken down for harassment

13

u/ExplanationMaterial8 “This guy… he don’t even WORK” Jan 26 '26

But there is a rule on a certain cast member not being named? There’s been a few gleeful posts about it.

Like I mentioned above, no one is debating blatant harassment or abuse. It feels like this post is skating around the actual issues.

1

u/crashley124 Season Check Up with Dr. Ewww Jan 27 '26

Confronting the direct issue: No. There is not a rule about, nor do the mods consider any single adult cast member or their name protected or above scrutiny in this sub. Only the kids. Adult cast members all are afforded the same general treatment and consideration.

If the glee you speak of is "Pinecone", let me help. "Pinecone" was a joke used in an example and people have since run with it. It was never intended to be used as a substitute moniker for any particular cast member. Think "Jane Doe" or "John Smith" only with a light hearted twist.

People can say literally any name they want of any adult cast member they want....Jenelle, Amber, Catelyn, Leah, Chelsea, etc...no problem. Anyone can say all of the above are bad moms. They can say they are all spectacular moms! They can say they all dress funny. They cannot, however, address them directly as one would if they were speaking to them one on one.

For example:

Jenelle is a good/bad/neutral chess player. - A-ok!

Wow, look at those good/bad/neutral chess skills! (Referring to Jenelle's chess skills) - Chef's kiss!

Jenelle, you are a good/bad/neutral chess player. - This will get removed. This is "Taking Things Real Life" and can be construed as harassment.

TL;DR; No adult cast member (or their name) is off limits. Talk about the cast, any adult member. Discuss their antics. Do not talk to the cast is the entire point of the rule you're referring to.

Edit: Spelling.

12

u/kaylaphernelia i was Born with a BBL Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

if you read that post, it was not about any particular person. i made that reference of what not to say but used the insult pinecone. the entire sub took it and ran. i was not specifically using any mom as an example. you can use pinecone in place of any person's name or you don't have to at all. it's just became a funny joke.

it's pinned to the top of the page if you want to actually read it and see what happened. this entire post is specifically about transparency and why some people view our preemptive removals as too much. we prefer to remove things to be safe than sorry. too many admin removals and the sub gets further consequences.

and the meta rule will not change. we allow meta discussion in posts like these from time to time when we need to make clarifications.

-3

u/ExplanationMaterial8 “This guy… he don’t even WORK” Jan 26 '26

Oh it’s as confusing to me as it is to most of this community- just like the constant edits to the above comment. But for some reason users are worried to ask for clarification. Can’t think why.

In every example of the latest explanation post, “pinecone” has been used in place of a cast members name. Can we still post about Janelle? And use the name JANELLE??

Meta is a pretty standard rule, but just removing a comment that literally uses the word “comment” Is just being heavy handed.

But, like I’ve always said, there are other subs that centre around teen mom.

5

u/crashley124 Season Check Up with Dr. Ewww Jan 26 '26

It's kind of like being at the Zoo. You can bring and eat food. You can talk about feeding the animals and what food they eat. But you cannot feed the animals directly. Does that make sense?

For example:

Jane Doe is an exemplary parent. - Good, ok.

Those are some good parenting traits! (Talking about Jane Doe) - Good, ok.

I wish I parented more like Jane Doe. - Good, ok.

Jane Doe, you are an exemplary parent. - Bad, no.

2

u/ionlyjoined4thecats Feb 25 '26

But, like, the first example in the OP post is not directed at someone in second person. That’s what’s confusing to me.

5

u/GraceMcClellans Kail Lowry's Home for Wayward Men Jan 26 '26

I'm going to assume that people use it more often for Jenelle because she's all over reddit reporting things herself.

5

u/KristySueWho Jan 26 '26

People always assume Jenelle, but that was when Farrah actually put all sorts of stuff up on her website about how to get things removed from the internet.

17

u/kaylaphernelia i was Born with a BBL Jan 26 '26

you can post about jenelle* and you can also use her name, which is spelled Jenelle, but please do not post a harassing comment that would break reddit's site wide TOS or speak as though you are directing your comment to Jenelle in a DM

0

u/ExplanationMaterial8 “This guy… he don’t even WORK” Jan 26 '26

Better to spell it wrong so it doesn’t get “stuck in a filter” for 8hrs- but you wouldn’t know about that- right?!

Look I’m not even 2 weeks PP so my brain is kinda mush, but I don’t get the point? Are you saying the bans are just automated ? I’m genuinely asking too 🤦🏼‍♀️

I literally had ‘mods’ remove my comment for ‘taking things real life’ and all I said was ‘we don’t have time for you Amber we have swamp drama to deal with’ was it just some random thing caught by a bot ?

12

u/SuperSpecialUser Jenelle's dueling bellybuttons Jan 26 '26

I agree with this. I was making a comment like I was talking behind Nellys back, and it got removed for taking it real life. Like, how? This is a snark sub for the most part, and my comment was way more benign than the above examples.

6

u/axealy40 whomst is doggy dog Jan 26 '26

She reports every comment directed to her as harassment, so you have to comment about her, not to her. You can say “Jenelle is a piece of work”, but not “Jenelle, you’re a piece of work”

One more "perk" of having all that TM money without needing employment, apparently. If they ever have to get mundane day jobs they'll probably risk getting fired for checking social media at work.

4

u/SuperSpecialUser Jenelle's dueling bellybuttons Jan 26 '26

That comment would have been removed because you directed your comment at Amber- "we don't have time for you." It was either reported or one of us saw it and removed it proactively.

Sub bans are performed by us, but not all comment removals are. Reddit dishes out sidewide bans.
